Re: Possible Panaque maccus?
Hi Deb!!
No Panaque at all, neither maccus or changae!!
Peckoltia sabaji could be an option but I would expect it to be more lighter in terms of colour!!
is an option you want to consider for an ID!!

Regarding the question of your initial post!! Any chance to spread them until the final is build I can't give you any length regarding your question, the less time is the better and no time at all is the best!! It will mainly depend of you!! You have fish that pollute water quite easily, which means...

Hi!!
It would be nice if you introduce yourself in the speak easy forum so we get to know you a little.
before we could answer your question it would be nice to give us more details on how you keep it (tank size and water parameters)

Hi!!
May I asked you how much you paid for it??
Because if you paid the price of a Hypancistrus for this fish...it would be totally overpriced!!
Beware as these grow big!!

Hi!
Some features look like Synodontis notata
but a few things put it out...such as shape and the fins!!
It could well be an Hybrid with S. notata been one of the 2 parents!!

I have 5 wild 340's in their own 20L with lots of hiding spaces I never see them and they have not reproduced yet. They are just very secretive type fish If I need to see them, I just flush them out of their hiding places. JS Hi 20liters tank?? that is really too small for 5 specimens The smaller t...

Wasn't the adult pictured in one of the issue of the BSSW bulletin?? That's the thing: If you want to, you can line-breed any of the variable Xingu forms to create more white. Maybe L236 is a form where the chance of getting specimens with more white and less black is higher than what the case is wi...

Jools, They were very reluctant to provide me with information about the source they used to breed them, but after much research I tracked down Budrovcan as the breeder for the L236. He had received a single pair from Glaser, this pair had been hand-picked by Hans Georg Evers at an exporter in Alta...

Hi!! He has odds colour but don't know if it is because he is sick or because of the water or because of the pictures. The water seems to be a bit blury, how often do you change water? nitrite in water is not a good sign, how long have you this tank running...what filtration? nitrite could also be t...

@ Birko!!
I don't see the point of your message, I suggest you to check directly with the person you named if you have problem with them, this forum is surely not the place to discuss such issue.
So I hurge anyone not to reply to Bilko respond and simply ignore it.
Thanks

Unungy: Like what I said with Hypancistrus. the Species concept is somewhat different from a science perspective and a hobbyist perspective. Also bare in mind that a species can have geographical variation, still they would belong to the same species. Again, it is the responsability of the hobbyist ...

Another thing to bare in mind is are the differences enough to consider them as seperate species or not?
A friend of mine made similar studies, and his conclusion they are the same thing!!

Hi!! It is very interesting to know they come from Pseudacanthicus leopardus. To start a debat: Probably would have been assigned a new fancy L number if it had been found in the wild!! That show that pattern can great evoluate and one species can vary a lot in term of coloration and there is no nec...
