Farlowella Tale
A few years back I bought 3 farlos but never knew exactly which ones until recently when I finally joined Planet Catfish, having used its resources for many years. They were yenyayively ID'd as vittata. I got them because I thought they were an unusual looking fish that ate algae. I had them for a y...

Re: epsom salt
Epsom is not salt like you use for sw tanks or to medicate in fw or to season food. However, it will raise the TDS of the water. Low level dosing being taken up by plants should not be a problem. But, if you are dosing Flourish or Tropica Plant Nutrition or a similar micro-nutrient product for plant...

Re: Is male BN keeping fry locked up too long?
My experience has been that bn spawned in my community tank are kept trapped longer than those in species tanks. In my case the fry do get eaten in the community tank and I think the dad tries to keep them in the cave longer to protect them. The bigger the fry when released, the better their chances...

Re: Bristlenoses eating my swords?
Bristlenose rasp for algae. They do this on amazon sword leaves which, unfortunately, are faily delicate. In the process they tend to rasp thrpugh the leaves. Swords which have a thicker, more "solid" leaf wont be damaged. They also will do this on compactas which are basically a dwarf ama...

Which Farlo Is This?
Hi all, I have had three farlowellas for several years. I have gotten several spawns from them but have never known for sure which specific farlos they are. Any input would be appreciated. http://twotankamin.smugmug.com/photos/812372486_jp2TD-XL.jpg http://twotankamin.smugmug.com/photos/812372422_CD...

Finally Joined
After years of using this site as a resource and after repeated nudging by Barbie, I finally joined the site. I have been keeping fw fish for about 7.5 years and have 15 tanks currently running. While I am not a catfish "nut" I have kept and had spawn a variety of bottom dwellers including...
