Perhaps I'm missing something ... you planned on keeping the tigrinus in a 29 gallon tank UNTIL he got bigger? Why not just start him in the 180 gallon from the beginning. He'd certainly grow faster in the 180 and you wouldn't have to worry quite as much about killing a beautiful, expensive fish due...

Not that this will help you in Scotland (I don't believe) - but Dimilin is the main ingredient, I believe, in a product called Anchors Away. Jungle Labs puts it out (although I often confuse them with Aquarium Pharmaceuticals). I've used it many dozens of times to eradicate Argulus and anchor worms ...

The meanest Pseudacanthicus I've ever kept would be L282 (King Galaxy). She's full grown at a very fat 8 inches and all the other plecos in the tank with her bear witness to her dominance. If you are planning on keeping any of the Pseudas together, be certain to provide far more caves than fish, and...

Gorgeous fish. Absolutely stunning. I've got some small (2 inches and smaller) and they kept their color more-or-less as they've grown (especially if you've fed them a very varied diet). The larger ones (7+ inches) that I bought at that large size usually had less color to begin with, so I don't kno...

I would worry more about it the other way. In my experience, Acanthicus adonis are nasty customers - even little ones. Give your tank lots of hiding places and feed 'em at separate ends, or prepare for full-contact pleco warfare. Or better yet, buy a much, much LARGER tank to house the adonis in (al...
After all of this talk about driftwood I had to chuckle. Here driftwood floated in on the mighty Mississippi is a dime a dozen. Just pressure blast it, drop it in a bucket with water/carbon for a week (changing daily) and make sure it doesn't smell funky - you're good to go! Rocks, however, are a ra...

Mine, just as Shane pointed out, hang out in the wood hollows of my tank. I've seen them rest in upturned clay flowerpots and stacked slate only a handful of times. But that scoured and holey bogwood they love! The gnarlier the better ... dunno how'd you get really large wood caves for mature sizes ...

Snail-eating Brochis? In current?
I have 5 B. splendens that I dropped into my 48x12x18 pleco tank - it was infested with hundreds of snails (what kind? I don't know). That was about a week ago. Now the snail infestation appears to have subsided or at least diminished quite a bit. Do they eat snails? Or is it sheer coincidence? - I'...

Hey, this is fun! I work for a garden center/pet store, grow citrus, and strive (quite fruitlessly, so far) to return to school for my advanced degree in political economy. When the night comes, I make some seriously banging intelligent dance music (not my term). Oh, and I root for Man City (quite f...

Gold nugget lesson ...
The only thing I've learned with any certainty about nuggets: You cannot possibly overfeed them. Most of the ones I've seen have suffered horribly in shipping and acclimation. For small ones (and aren't they all?), as short a period as 2 days without meals (emphasis plural) will take a nasty, near-i...

Goldie, the return
The Jardini only eats live fish (to my observation) - so I know he's not munching anything down there. Today the goldie passed some clearish fecal matter so evidently something found its way inside him overnight. If there were any vets here w/experience giving wormers to fish I'd easily spring for i...

Goldie - minus food = death ?
I have come across a large (12") Scobinancistrus aureatus where I work - his problem being an extremely sunken stomach (and sunken eyes). All attempts to feed him have met with failure. He has several driftwood caves, 80 degree F water, and a patient owner. I've seen smaller plecos with the sam...
