Re: My Public Aquarium: exhibit blues - how to make them?
Yes, my definition of a 'superbug' is a microorganism that has mutated enough to resist our basic medications, or some other microorganism that we haven't even heard about yet.

Re: My Public Aquarium: exhibit blues - how to make them?
Viktor, I don't mean to alarm you, but here on the west coast, Pets Mart fish are known for having "superbugs". If I ever just have to buy a fish from that store chain, I double quarantine them. I don't know the quality of the 'Pets Mart' fish on the east coast (could be better?), but I ho...

Re: My Public Aquarium: exhibit blues - how to make them?
At 3:59 of your second Hemiodus sp. video (with the "kill first 3 of their kind" in the tag line), there is one specimen with a single dot on the side. I know Hemiodus gracilis can be variable, but it may be that you have another species in this one? According to Baensch & Riehl that f...

Re: My Public Aquarium: exhibit blues - how to make them?
Good question. I've never raised Arowana so can't help you there. It could be the way they were raised, genetics of the parents, balance of the number of males, or females, or males and females, personality of one fish, or the personalities of some, or the combination of fishes. One thing is clear t...

Anyone have experience with the effects of burning incense in the same room with an aquarium?
I'm thinking it can't be good.

Do you have room to spread them out, maybe in groups of 2, 3 or 4? Might be better than watching them thin themselves out?

Re: Crinum plant with plecos?
I've grown Crinum thianum with Ancistrus sp. along with cats from other Families and never had a problem. But can't speak to your L200's or L204's. I would imagine since your L204 likes to eat wood, it might have a go at your Crinum. my 2¢

Thanks for the details. What size tank do you have them in and what type of filtration? Do you do anything special with the lights aside from the standard 10-12 hour lighting period?

Wow, that is good new Phoenix.L! Can you talk a little more about your tank layout and parameters? I have one S. contractus and am looking for more also. It's hard to find them out here on the west coast also. But once I get them I hope to spawn them as well.

Re: My Public Aquarium: exhibit blues - how to make them?
1) I would isolate her from the male just as a precaution. Nothing is off the menu with crayfish in my experience 2) I would only feed on occasion. Not make it a 'main-stay' in the diet. Then I think, your main thiaminase-rich diet will make up for this. Depending on the size you grow them out too, ...

Re: My Public Aquarium: exhibit blues - how to make them?
Victor, just fyi, the male crayfish can be id'ed by a pair of modified swimmerets that act as a kind of 'gonopodium' right at the juncture of the thorax and the abdomen. Similar with the female: at the juncture of the thorax and the abdomen she has an indentation indicating the reproductive canal. I...

Thanks Jools. I like what you said here: You could do (1) go to my wishlist (2) type species in quick find and (3) add species to a wishlist if that helps how your thought process works? I don't mind bending my thought process to use the site. But that said, sometimes its not so much about how effic...

For me sometimes, i see or read about a fish I decide I want, in my little brain I automatically think 'wishlist', I go on Planetcatfish and go to "My Wishlist" There would be an "Add to" button just like the "remove from" button. I click in it and it takes me to a 'sub...

Thanks Eric, appreciate the help. And what would be more user friendly in my opinion, in addition to the CLOG 'path', would be an "add" feature on the "My Wishlist" page.

Re: My Public Aquarium: exhibit blues - how to make them?
Here's a good book if you don't have it already: "The Fishes and the Forest" by Michael Goulding, University of California Press 1980. Most likely out of print but worth it if you can find it. Goes over a number of large tropical species (including catfishes) and their relationships to the...

Re: Smitten by the beautiful 'hybrid'
I totally agree Viktor. I did think about the pattern/morphology changing over time. We know so little about some of these species. Whose to say its not a juvenile form of something else? Right now its a hybrid in my thinking. But maybe someone with more experience than me can make a convincing argu...

Re: Smitten by the beautiful 'hybrid'
Yes, I can see that as a possibility. I also couldn't deny the steep basioccipital hump and the very uniform fin patterns which were more like bands than circles. Luckily I paid $8.00 for it so it was a gamble worth taking. It'll make a good pet for someone.

Smitten by the beautiful 'hybrid'
Got completely taken by this beautiful hybrid? In the store I was trying to turn it into a S. camelopardalis. But after getting it home, I found it harder and harder to do that. I thought to post this on the "hybrid syno thread" but just wondering if there's a vague chance this might just ...

Listless Cories
I have a group of baby (1/2 inch) habrosus. They were lying on the bottom in the store and I was a little concerned. After acclimation and dropping them into new water, they went into scratching and darting about agitated. This behavior has lessened, and although they occasionally swim and eat, they...
