Re: anyone have panchax?

Thanks so much! Not exactly my kind of fish usually but I watched one in their big community tank and kind of fell in love - very graceful, always seemed to be checking something out. And of course that yellow flash is nice too. The only yellow catfish they ever had was a 'flash pleco' and it was wa...

Re: anyone have panchax?

Sorry, should have been more specific :d It looks like one of these, Aplocheilus lineatus. Yellow with orange when old enough, kind of gray and bland when younger. I don't have any tiny fish in the tank but it looks like I would need to get a cover/screen? Real jumpers? My glass cats don't jump but ...

anyone have panchax?

Saw one tonight and was told that they're very aggressive to their own kind but good with other fish that don't look similar. Anyone have experience with these? Since my conditions don't allow for a happy betta, the colouring of a mature panchax would seem a good choice? Web search has all sorts of ...

Went to LFS to buy 6 more harlequin tetras - school so nicely! - but they wouldn't let me buy them since they arrived ick-y. So I looked around and glory be! they had banjos in!!! I've been looking for these almost since I started on this forum! Yea! Never need to QT fish from there so in they went ...

Re: A few pict of the fish that keep me

Nice! Those shish-kabob skewers work very nicely, eh? I sometimes load mine up all the way so the twigs can eat without the plecos bugging them.

Good idea with the oak - kind of like a purple martin house. Fish apartments. :-BD

Re: HELP! need to make a sort of cage..

Now I know exactly what you mean. It was the same whisper filters that I had to cover. My farlowella liked to climb in. I used mesh at first but it was too fine and would gunk up eventually. Maybe look at a hardware store for eaves trough cover. It's stiff plastic and is used to prevent leaves and d...

Eek. No pictures is wonderful. Guys don't have it too bad but the women certainly get treated differently depending on what they look like. Sensible people try not to but we all do it. If I'm a hot babe I'll be treated differently than if I'm a scary woman with a scowl and mustache. Imagine the kook...

Hey Grokefish, Rants are good for the soul eh? This topic is really important for us to think about whether we agree or disagree, it doesn't matter, what matters is that we can take the time to think about our part is this whole business. Maybe it makes some of us a little better fish-keepers? The p...

Re: HELP! need to make a sort of cage..

I'm sure someone will come along with the right answer soon but in the meantime, a hairclip over the end will block the entrance. I've even used a plastic strawberry 'basket' like you get from the supermarket over my heater until I had time to find a perfect solution.

Good rescue by the way! :-BD

Didn't watch the video but I get the idea - I would be sad to see it, so no visit for me. You could also use soft pebbles to hold and the just round silica sand (not 'sharp' sand) as Bas Pels suggested. So far I've had no problem growing all kinds of fine rooted or thick aggressive rooted plants in fine sand. I sometimes use pebbles to initially hold the plant down while I fill up the re...
