Re: Parancistrus Aurantiacus Xanto spawned

Larry, L056 Parancistrus aurantiacus Xanto is not an albino form, same yellow specimen can change from yellow to totally black or reverse to yellow. The offspring is not yellow, they are dark brown or black. Not all change the color at breeding season, both black and yellow forms are breeding. Only ...

For me they are still L66 and nothing else, pattern differ a little between localities but it's not uncommon with this pattern among L66, the first adult introduced was mostly this kind of pattern.

L309 without any doubts, there are only 1 species of pleco from Brazil looking like this. L309 is little variable, smaller size much nicer than larger.

Re: L240 bloated, breathing rapidly

The only way I have succeed to cure bloated plecos is to isolate the specie in their own tank, high temp. 29-30C with good circulation, add 750mg-1g (1,5-2 tablets) Metronidazole + salt 30-50mg/100L water day 1, day two Metronidazole 500mg (1 tablet) and then I do nothing, no feeding until the stoma...

So I assumed these are specimen selected from a batch of regular L007 based on their "unique" juvenile marking and expect them to grow up looking like any regular L007. :)
Yes, they will look like normal adults and lose this nice pattern.

Picture 1 and 2 normal color and pic 3-4 stress color, some have very nice pattern as youth. One exporter in Brazil offered these as "new Leporacanthicus cf. galaxias Tocantins" to customers and used that name in the documents... IBAMA confiscated these boxes :) even that it's allowed if u...

Re: Thoughts on these L75 type fish...

We do get one or two plecos from Tocantins sometimes that look identical at smaller size (10-12cm) with the one we export as L163 from Xingu. I don't know if the location is wrong for L163 (Rio do Para) because from this part no plecos have been exported for around 2 years and before that I did not ...

L411 youngsters should have a much more irregular pattern, these have a pattern more similar to L129 but it's not this species, they are more similar to L316 compared to adult pattern... 3cm at this size they should have a totally different pattern if they was L316? let wait and see how they develop...

Re: A very nice yellow based Hypancistrus sp.

This is very close to what I think about the situation of Xingu-Hypancistrus. In my opinion, L 236, L 173, L 287, L 345, L 399/400 and many other Hypancistrus without L-Numbers (all the Belo Monte stuff) are different kinds of transition forms between the common "species" like L 46, L 66,...

Re: A very nice yellow based Hypancistrus sp.

Are these totally deviant markings a sign for a species, or for an aberration? What do you think. Aberration, like it's for several other L-numbers of Hypancistrus from Xingu. But L236 is more related to L333 then it's to L66 which are the 2 main species in this complex of "species", thes...

The second link shows a stubby species and not elongated even if it looks like a flatter/thinner species in these pictures, have a look on the shape of the head, it's a little thin over the body in these pictures but it will be fatter and stubbier after some meals. L287 don't exist as a separate spe...

Have a look on the original picture of L236 and you will see that the body shape is not elongated, slim or longish in this species. Most pictures showed as L236 is not this species, they belong to the L173-L399-L400 and lower xingu group of Hypancistrus, but your´s are close enough to be the real L2...

It looks like a Tapajos species and not from Xingu, it may well be the "Golden line" which are from Rio Teles Pires. Some pictures in a tank after they have settled in so they show correct color will help.
