Re: I now have S.Barbatus fry
Sort of. I have a one year old that has stayed 'dwarfed' at around ¾". The rest of the brood were fine though. That does happen in most any batch of fry. Some grow more slowly than others, some simply stop growing, completely. For whatever reason, I took the question as relating to the entire ...

Re: I now have S.Barbatus fry
Personally, I have not. My experience with S. barbatus and S. kronei is that once they make it past the 7 day mark, they are fairly bullet proof and grow quite rapidly, given frequent WC's and an extremely varied diet. Cheers. - Frankbsmith wrote:Ever heard of that?

Mr. Fuller was kind enough to create a sticky at the top of this forum on raising fry. You can't beat that information as a excellent starting point. Congrats on your wrigglers. Cheers. - Frank

Re: Accurate ID
They feed mostly on algae, and vegetables like salad, brussels sprouts and that stuff. If you have the possibility to put some stones into a small tank on the window ledge, I´d do that to produce large amounts of algae. Don´t put them into a clinical clean tank. Unfortunately I know more keepers wh...

Re: Accurate ID
Thank you, Daniel. Being partial to any small species, I have become quite fond of these. While they appear quite happy and healthy after having them a few weeks, I have not actually seen them eat any of the various foods I have given them. Anything you can name that would be the most important part...

Re: Can You Please ID My Tetras
They look amazing and I would never have picked them for congo size. I guess I should try to measure one. Who knows how mature my Congos were for comparison? I wonder if they are available down here. Kinda rare. I only know of a handful of people keeping them. Great photo's by the way. Thanks. I'm ...

Re: Can You Please ID My Tetras
Hmmm. Well, I don't do much measuring, but they are definitely on the upper end of most tetra species. Almost as large as the last Congos that I kept, if that helps at all. Cheers. - Franknvcichlids wrote:Wow! How big are these?

Crenuchus spilurus - Like No Other
Greetings. This fish is one of the most interesting in the hobby. According to Heiko Bleher, "it is the only species of freshwater fish we know of, that has infrared perception." Another rarely seen and highly sought after species. I have acquired 50 of these and will also be setting these...

Can You Please ID My Tetras
Greetings. I hope that this is allowed in this section. I have been unable to get a species name for this fish. I know that many of the people here keep many species other than cats. They have started spawning, so I'd like to start raising them. Anyone have any idea what they actually are??? Cheers....

Re: N. rubrocaudatus Spawning
Do you have some information how you breed the N.Morthenhalerie? Temp, parameters etc.... Hi. I keep a group 10 with a 50/50 sex-ratio in a 10 USG tank. It is thickly stuffed with java moss, has a fine sand bottom and one sponge filter. The tank is unheated, so the temp fluctuates between 68 and 72...

I have also a group of N.Rubrocaudatus. Till now i have not seen any activity of spawning, unfortunately. How is it going in your tank? Hi. I still have not managed to find the time to set them up, by there is distinct spawning activity taking place in the group tank. I hope to get a few groups set...

Yep and my 84 degree L183 tank they rot pretty quickly. The IAL have a very sturdy spine that does not degrade that aids in removal of the spent litter. I need to reorder some of those as I am moving heavily into keeping wild bettas. Do you have a US supplier for them as I can only find them is SE ...

Re: Egg ID (s.barbatus or Black C. Schultzei)
Hopefully I get some fry to feed! Any chance you know the incubation period roughly? Hi Brandon. Very temperature dependent, but 3 days is about average. I really like leaf litter. It's in all my CRS tanks and I believe the microorganisms "aufwechs" (I think) that reside afte a couple of ...

Re: Egg ID (s.barbatus or Black C. Schultzei)
Any advise of feeding? I am thinking crushed egg/spirulina/tropical/worm flakes in the morning (~8am) and the same about 12h later. Another subject that each fish keeper seems to have their own regimen, for. I don't generally feed until the third day after hatching. I have lately started using leaf...

Re: Egg ID (s.barbatus or Black C. Schultzei)
They ate a relatively young group. I will have had them one year this May. Right. Average age for first time spawning attempts, the first couple of which can go awry. The egg count would also be shy of what one would expect in a mature female. So is it suggested that I remove the eggs/all other cat...

Re: Egg ID (s.barbatus or Black C. Schultzei)
I'm not used to Cory's returning to the same spot to add eggs Do keep in mind that although many Corys have what could be called traditional egg laying patterns for their individual species, none of them hold completely true, 100% of the time. While S. barbatus will generally lay as shown in the ph...

Re: Egg ID (s.barbatus or Black C. Schultzei)
C. schultzei "Black" generally lay up to 300 eggs, in my experience. S. barbatus generally average around 70 until very mature then can climb to 100 or slightly more. If this is a young adult group of S. barbatus, I would lean in that direction. Almost all of the eggs look viable. Personal...

This spawning mode is supposed to also be true of the mysterious Rineloricaria sp(l010a)]. However, I know the breeder who raised the specimens I have usually used a a closed end PVC pipe cave. I have had this fish spawn on numerous occasions using three - 9" pieces of open-ended PVC zip-tied ...
