Xanthic Brachyrhamdia?
For about 18 months now, I've had a group of 10 Brachyrhamdia marthae , which came from Pier Aquatics. There has always been a pale one among the group. The fish are pretty shy unless there's food around, so I don't see it clearly very often. Tonight I fed some live blackworms, which sparked a feedi...

Re: Thinking about a Hypostomus (L233) - any advice?
Thanks - it's a very handsome fish and I love the spot pattern. It's more consistently patterned than L075 Peckoltia sabaji , which is the common 'yellow with dark spots' species. Actually the L233 is very similar in colouration and pattern to my palest of my three L244 Pseudolithoxus dumus although...

I decided to buy a in the end. There was only one left in the shop but it's a lovely fish about 6" long and is making itself at home in my big tank.

I'll try to find the paper with the Farlowella identification key next time I'm back in the office (where I have journal access).
I wouldn't pay too much attention to colours, mine change with mood and background.

I'm surprised it doesn't eat fingers!
Great idea for a big tank though - now where can I park one of those?

Re: Species of Farlowella
There are two lines of scales on the belly (rather than three) which narrows the field down a bit. One of the most common species in the hobby is Farlowella vittata which has two lines of scales. Sometimes you get Farlowella mariaelenae mixed in with them and they have three rows of scales. I've kep...

Re: Compatible plecos with goldfish
There are some plecos that prefer cooler water which could be compatible with goldfish. Generally they are quite large fish and need excellent water quality and a lot of space. How big is the tank (pond?)

Mine eat a variety of leafy veg such as spinach, leaf beet. They also love red bell peppers. The favourite food for my Otos (and Farlowellas) is Repashy gel, a mix of soilent green, morning wood and chlorella/spirulina powder. I mix up a pot then dip some twigs into it to create 'lollipops'. They ca...

I have kept a 6" female P.pitanga with a shoal of about 10 Brochis (Corydoras) splendens with no problems in a 4'x2'x2' tank with plenty of cover. They didn't interact much, though the Pseuda was definitely boss of the tank.

Re: Tank makers in Manchester?
My nearest shop Urmston Aquatics used to sell custom tanks abd stands and I had a few from them, but timescales and quality went a bit downhill as one of their suppliers was letting them down. They may be better again now as I think they have brought more of it in-house. Worth an enquiry anyway. Paul

I wish I could order black worms by the pound! Only one shop anywhere near me has them, and then only about every 3 months. I treasure my accidental culture of them! They are the proverbial rocking horse poo here.

Re: Meds for Cory's and Yoyo Loaches?
My opinion is that you shouldn't medicate unless you need to. Meds have side-effects and down-sides too. If the fish shows no signs of Ich, why stress it out with Ich meds? In my experience, wild-caught fish have pretty good immune systems. Fish from local breeders are usually healthy and disease-re...

Re: Pseudolithoxus diet
Thanks Eric :) I just chuck the worms in. In tanks with any fish that eat worms, they get quickly eaten. Occasionally I find out if there are no worm-eaters when a worm population becomes established, like in this case. It's no great problem- I can use them as food for the other tanks. I've found my...

Re: Pseudolithoxus diet
Hi Johannes, I think your worms are smaller than the blackworms. Blackworms are typically 20mm to 50mm long and about 0.5mm thick. I'm sure Corydoras would love to eat your little worms though! The 'Back to Nature Guide to L-Catfishes' by Ingo Seidel says that Pseudolithoxus "should be fed both...

Pseudolithoxus diet
I have a group of three Pseudolithoxus dumus L244. After a long period in a community tank they are now in a dedicated breeding tank. Some sources suggested that they would enjoy high-protein foods such as worms. Amongst other foods, I tried feeding blackworms which are a great favourite with some o...

Thanks to both of you. I'll get in touch with Stephan and see whether a few tubs can be shipped at a reasonable price. Thinking about a Hypostomus (L233) - any advice?
I was at Pier Aquatics today and an attractive pleco, yellow with black spots caught my eye - in fact there were two, each about 5" SL and possibly one of each sex as one had more odontodes on the pectoral fin spines. After some discussion with Rachael and a quick search on the internet, they'r...

Re: Discussion: Plecos and Fruits?
Is anyone aware of a supplier of Repashy Fruut Luups in the U.K.? I've tried various online Repashy suppliers, and Pier Aquatics who used to stock Repashy in the shop, but no luck. The Repashy UK website lists a very limited range of fish foods compared to the US equivalent.

Re: Raw php code appears when using cat-e-log on Safari (iPhone)
Thanks Eric. I've just tried it on Firefox on my laptop and got the same result.
It's not specific to search terms or order either - all the searches I have tried returned php code, though for a genus with few species there's less code, so I suspect it's related to each row in the table of results.

Raw php code appears when using cat-e-log on Safari (iPhone)
On my iPhone with the safari browser, I used the cat-e-log, family loricariidae, genus chaetostoma, sort by keepers, 100 results. The search returned a load of php code - see attached. Scrolling a looong way down I then found the correct list of images and species. Not a massive problem because the ...

Incidentally I am trialling the use of red ramshorn snails as an anti-fungal measure, as proposed in this thread: https://www.planetcatfish.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=42862 It seems to be working OK so far, though my little snails keep escaping from the breeder box and I need to replenish the...

Re: Corydoras - dealing with successive spawns?
Thanks - thanks a good idea! I've worked out how to fit a second breeder box to the parents' tank (needed a bit of re-plumbing but I've just made it work) so I have solved the immediate problem that way. But if they keep spawning frequently then the problem will occur again soon and I'll definitely ...

Corydoras - dealing with successive spawns?
I've got a specific question, but first let me give you some background. My Corydoras burgessi keep spawning, at intervals of 1-4 weeks. The spawns are usually fairly small (15 eggs) but sometimes larger (maybe up to 50 eggs). I've not been very good with breeding Corys in the past, but I seem to be...
