Re: Hello! Beginner here. advice/suggestions please
I have two oscars in a 75 with a number of other cichlids, south american as well as a couple of lone victorians, and a couple of africans. I keep the bottom of the tank littered with driftwood old pottery stones etc. I have a breeding coloney of ancistrus in the tank at the moment. The only thing i...

Re: Home-made pleco spawning caves
Not really all that complicated. Carve the dried clay to whatever level of detail you want to duplicate. cast one side cast the other side at that point you have a mold that you can pres the two slabs of clay into. let them set a little and the plaster pulls moisture from the clay acting as a releas...

Re: Home-made pleco spawning caves
Dried clay being much easier to carve then stone, here is what I am working on now. I have made a number of clay clyinders which I am letting dry. I will then carve them and make plaster casts, which I can then press clay slabs into to make copies of the original carving, I am hoping to duplicate th...

Re: Mixing orange lasers and leopards?
At the catfish cataclysm this topic was touched on briefly, our speaker indicated he had had no hybridization issues when he mixed short nosed with long nosed species, but had seen some hybridization when he kept short nosed species together or long nosed species together. Admittedly this is anecdot...

Would they add any toxicity to the clay? Or are they safe for fish? I have used mason dyes with cement that I used to make a structure for a friend. we did not have any problems with toxicity. You could research the metals used in the dyes. I would not use any of the greens that I found as they all...

My wife and I share a fish room. She is really in love with the long finned form of the Ancistrus, especially in the gold/albino forms. She has been trying for a while to spawn them without much luck, So a friend of mine loans her a proven pair of albino longfin Ancistrus. A no-brainer spawn you wou...

I see progress Eric, you have learned a couple of things not to do. After Cataclysm, I have a club member who is pretty interested in the idea of building his own caves for some catfish he has. So we are looking at building a Kiln for wood firing on his property. This will probable take through the ...

Eric, I really like those two. I would love to see those fired with a wood firing process... Between the texture from the work you did, the texture from the glaze, and the stonelike nature of the finish, I think you would be really pleased. ...could they be "cooked" in a simple back yard ...

Today, I was able to spend an hour in a local park collecting alder cones, and then I was able to stop in and pick up 20 feet of bamboo in the 3 to 4 inch diameter range for under $30.
