I use copper beech tree leaves in my leaf litter tanks, have several whiptails spawning in them at the moment so they sem to like it ok.

I just boil them for twenty minutes or so then add to the tank when they have cooled.

Sand substate about 1cm deep.

I notice that if I have cut on my hand I feel a very slight electrical tingle on the cut when I place it in the water of my tanks, is this a sign of a fault of some sort in my electrics? or is it normal?

No luck finding heart of palm in my local supermarket, but they do have bamboo shoots and water chestnuts, has anyone ever tried either for panaques ?

My L177 used to eat the various Ech. species in my discus tank so I eventually moved him into a plantless river style tank where he thrives.

I also feed mine spirulina algae paste which they seem to like.

Buy some powdered spirulina algae from a health food shop and mix with water till it forms a paste.

A bit off topic, but any idea why so many of these reports are military in origin ?? The US has a wildlife service of some sort dosnt it ? What interest would the military have in freshwater fish populations ?
