Re: Ancistrus ranunculus spawned!
Ancistrus ranunculus, three weeks old. You can see clearly that the juveniles are spotted at this stage. Which is quite interesting! The mouth doesn’t look as large now, but it is misleading because these juveniles already have wide headshapes. Beauties! http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i39/jacben/...

Re: L034 Medusa Losing Color
Ancistrus have a long intestine, they are mostly herbivores. Ancistrus ranunculus are more "Aufwuchs feeders". That means they scrape on stones and wood eating not only algae and small plants but also small living organisms. Soilent Green contains 3 kinds of algae, kelp and some herbs but ...

Re: L034 Medusa Losing Color
To me this definitely looks like a fungus. There are many kinds. The eye is also affected and completely covered. I'm not quite sure what would be best as these fish are quite sensitive. But if it were my fish I would clean out the tank, do a large water change (50-80%), refill with nice warm water....

Re: Ancistrus ranunculus spawned!
Ancistrus ranunculus eggs, 72 hours old. One egg had hatched premature during the night. After coming home from work I found it had collapsed. So 5 eggs still doing very well👌🏻 I’m amazed at their speedy growth! http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i39/jacben/Aquarium%20IV/EAE5A78A-9820-418F-9AB3-38BC8...

An old post of mine. Breeding these is not easy and I didn't manage to get older fry from my groups. I stopped keeping them 6 months ago, just to have a break from them. I will try again one day ;)

As I said before, well done Jac. You have magic tanks. \:d/ give lot's of oxygen, adding extra air stones would be a good idea with this species More and more I prefer to add extra airstones to tanks. Cheers, Eric I use extra air stones in almost all my single tanks. But not in my breeding system. ...

What a nice update! I recently put a P. nudiventris in my tank. Would you have some advices for me? Could you tell us more about your experience with this species? Wish you luck! Congratulations. They are an awesome species. Not aggressive or territorial in my experience. They are quite shy, in my ...

The fry are doing very well. No special care needed. Still feeding on Repashy herbivore formulas daily.
Some of the juveniles are turning colors. Not sure why but it is lasting, they have been like this for a month now.
The latest batch

Re: Feeding Ancistrus Medusa L034
What about the conditions you're keeping them in? Most times when fish don't eat it's because something else is not quite right. They need warm water, high oxygen levels, some current, clean water (lot's of fresh waterchanges) and lot's of hiding places. Make sure they are free of parasites too. My ...

What you are describing is exactly how it went here with my P. albivermis. Everything from multiple trapping without success, to swapping males and it took mine more then a year, infact two, before they dropped eggs. Keep going, they will pop
