Re: Sex My L046
Fish #3 may be a female. However, the odontodes look a bit to thick for that to be the case and is most likely slightly younger than the others. The rest are definite males.

Re: Flat Pleco w/Wide Head
I think the bristles being discussed are slightly different than you're thinking. I'm very positive the fish displayed here Neblinichthys echinasus is not the species, but does display the bristles being discussed. There are species which become commercially available occasionally which display this...

Re: Flat Pleco w/Wide Head
Hard to really tell from the pics, but the caudal doesn't look to be forked which would discount Lasiancistrus. Body does look very similar though.

I'm thinking this may very well be more specific than just diet, but wanted to see more information before making assumptions. I don't want to make any statements which may be misconstrued or provide false basis, but I find it VERY interesting that the species/genera mentioned in the articles posted...

Re: Crow?
I can think of a couple of evolutionary reasons for this type of differentiation, but hadn't seen this before now. I'm curious if there has been any work done intentionally comparing gut analysis of the sexes of any of the species in this group.

Re: Help with ID please
The shortened snout and oversized eye lead me to believe that this may be one of the hybrid lines. I can also see hints of eupterus, but that species is fairly commonly used as a parent species in hybridized lines because of large clutch size and relatively sturdy fry.

Re: White spot developing on the Tail Fin of BNP
This just appears to be the normal color of the strain. The white fin tips of the common strain generally carry into the green dragon and albino lines. I had never really given any thought to it prior to this, but don't think I've ever seen a healthy fish from one of these strains which didn't have ...

Re: L134, Males dropped Odontodes, spawning season over?
All of them will lose them if conditions aren't right. It could mean the males aren't in condition, or could be something off with water quality. Either way, I wouldn't expect any sort of spawning till after the male has re-grown them.

Didn't see this mentioned anywhere in the post, but there is an obvious bacterial infection. The third pic in the post, single cory sitting on sand facing the camera, shows the start of obvious bacterial ulcers. Most likely, the same infection is causing the deterioration.

Re: What in the world? (L134)
I do know that a rumor started circulating about these about a year ago. Several people had contacted me about getting fry as I was getting my tanks closed down for the move to Japan. All were telling me that L134 and L264 had been added to the ban list. Because I was closing down tanks, and not kee...

Looks very nice. I had the best luck feeding Tetra Bits, earthworm sticks, and shrimp sticks when I was spawning this species. Re: Deworming Corydoras drug choice
Years ago, there were a few books which dealt with using a microscope for disease identification, but they seem to have fallen to the wayside. A good overview, and I just checked Amazon to make sure it's still in circulation, can be found in the "Aquariology" series published by Tetra Pres...

Re: Receiving shipped cories
There is always a risk of having issues because of netting with any fish, more so with catfish. However, the quality of the net will make a big difference. Those cheap white nylon things sold as nets, and usually included with beginner kits are of no use other than to catch fin rays or odontodes. Th...

Re: Synodontis lucipinnis without spots
I cannot discount the possibility that these will remain white, but did see it on occasion that some fry developed their pattern more slowly. It was only ever a single individual from any given spawn so my final assumption was that the fish was likely being bullied by others and just developed slowe...

Re: Receiving shipped cories
When receiving fish, I always use the same method. I place a 10 inch net over top of a 5 gallon bucket and slowly pour the water through the net into the bucket. No chance of getting shipping water in the tank and a lot easier than trying to net out of the bag.

There has been a bit of conversation taking place about the identity of the fish labeled as #6. Would it be possible to get additional pictures taken from above, as with the originals, but at altering angles?

Re: Can anyone sex my 6 L340's? And is #6 truly an L340?
Which angle would be best to determine the sex of these fish? Lateral and up-close? I could try again but I'm worried that it might stress them out too much. The angle of the pics is fine as is. I simply couldn't see any details which I'd be willing to base gender upon. In conjunction with not bein...

Re: Can anyone sex my 6 L340's? And is #6 truly an L340?
The images aren't good enough to give a good ID of gender, but the measurements wound indicate they're not large enough yet either. Of the times I've kept L340, they were fairly consistently a minimum of 6cm SL before they really showed any real interest in spawning. For that reason, I can only sugg...

The L340 does appear to be a female. However, If the LDA022 have hair on the caudals, they are without question males.

Good info from both responses. These guys are notorious for gorging themselves with all the food they can take in, so wouldn't worry too much about a swollen stomach unless you see that it's causing trouble for the fish. Saw your user name, and had to respond because it's too much coincidence. I'm c...

Both bondi and nattereri show up with some frequency, every couple of years. However, I've never seen either of them correctly labeled at wholesalers. Without a visual, either by you or a photo, this isn't likely to be easily answered.

Re: Live Daphnia for Corydoras
Daphnia isn't normally a mainstay of their diet, so you shouldn't be expecting any kind of a frenzy from them. I used to feed daphnia in planted tanks containing adolfoi, habrosus, and burgessi (been a very long time ago, about 20 years) and would see them occasionally eat them, but never with any g...
