Platydoras dentatus is listed in Burgess' atlas of cafish, but the book has neither a picture nor a description on that species, so I did a google search, found it limited, fishindex lists it as a synonym of P. costatus, so does this german site http://www.zierfischverzeichnis.de/ordnungen/silurifor...

Where I live we have a power outage every few months, but normally they last less than 15 minutes, longest one I can remember was about 3 or 4 hours. I've got a battery powered airstone, but I really use that more for transport than anything else. I did have an 8 hour period where our power was out ...

you have other tanks? if you've got a filter cartridge from one of the eclipses that has been on the tank for long enough for some buildup to occur you can actually use it to your advantage, you can remove it, there should be at least a little bit of room behind the filter pad where you could put th...

Fiskars, does the filter you have have a basket in it that you could put some sort of media in, like bio-rings or cell-pore or something? Most either have that or have bio-wheels, a bio-grid, or a seperate sponge that you don't remove. Walmart seems to sell the Regent line pretty strongly, so we'll ...

haha, 25% water changes aren't going to be enough. I'd check to make sure your test kit's not screwed up cause if your fish have been in ammonia of 4 to 5 ppm for more than a day or so they'd be having serious problems... even 1 ppm is pretty dangerous. my suggestion would be 75% water changes and t...

could be some, none I know of. I have had discus parents and ram parents lose every spawn to plecos if the eggs are left in the tank. Plecos being nocturnal certainly helps, as even the rams were really biting at my fingers when I'd remove the eggs. Good parents, but... However the tank was heavily ...

*sigh* the amazon river drainage runs the whole spectrum of water types, the one you're considering is from the higher elevations where water moves much more quickly. For instance... rio xingu, which the fish you've got in your signature, comes from http://www.balaio.com.br/pesca/pesqueiros/xingu/xi...

well, rubbernoses aren't really hypostomus species if you're looking for a pleco in general that will live in a 55 there are many... just about anything on my site except the L014, L114, the royal, or L025, would do fine in a 55 gallon. any peckoltia, hypancistrus or panaqolus species should be fine...

why regulate them any differently than regular zebra fish from an ecological point of view? they'll do no more damage than a regular zebra fish. eat the same, attain the same size, breed the same, behave the same, they're just different colors. ;) I will say banning them is a step in the right direc...

I wish I had that kind of cash ;) but seriouslyI keep one of each, tigrinus and juruense, I have the tigrinus in a 90 gallon temporary home with 3 leopoldi stingrays. he's at about a foot. The juruense is like 5 inches, so he'd be dinner in that tank for someone I...

I quit doing that a while back cause I completely gave up on beefheart for discus, partially because preparing it was so unpleasant. I ha...

Actually, I stated that I owned both M. tigrinus and B. juruense. You can see right under my avatar that I'm in the US. I even linked to stores in the US where these fish can be purchased. You'll likely never see them in a store, they're a bit rare, and few stores are willing to spend $300 on a fish...
