I would think it'd probably kill the thing... not the liquor but the carbonation going over the gills probably really doesn't help... like breathing out of a newly emptied 2 liter bottle or something.

Sturgeons are a whole other cup of tea, but I believe that some species are protected due to overfishing. There are 3 listed in Axelrod's atlas, the typical 30 foot max beluga sturgeon, a whiptail sturgeon he lists as maxing out at 60cm, and one other that is listed as 1.25 meters max size. They are...

heh, I just meant those are the most likely genus, if it were to happen I'd suspect them first. I've got a royal in with mine and he leaves anything non-catfish alone. The reason you see commons with discus is most discus hobbyists don't really care and why pay more for something that rivals or surp...

There are sharks that find their way into freshwater, bull sharks being the most notable, being found in lakes in nicaragua if memory serves me right, as well as rivers in north america occasionally. I'm not aware of any truly freshwater(restricted to only freshwater that is) shark. There are a few ...

I'v had bad luck with oto's but that may be due to their natuarl oxygen needs or just bad stock... my discus tank is filtered at about a 12 times per hour turnover rate and they never made it at 85 degrees. Whatis your turnover rate? maybe others would be able to advise.

but oddly enough rays have evolved, at least the freshwater species, denticles that are not hook-like, except along the dorsal surface of the tail, but really more rounded and pebbly, and in some species they stay towards the backside of the fish. the leopoldis I have have them from about midway on ...

Samurai, I regard the slime thing as a highly exagerated event, or possibly even an urban legend. No one's ever been able to prove it to me. That being said it's unlikely that a healthy discus would sit still for such things, and most plecos aren't that brave. I've got plecos in with stingrays, whic...

for weight just estimate 10 pounds per gallon, water weighs about 8 pounds per gallon, the extra goes for filters, substrate and such. And you can do the old tank surface area/per inch of fish... I find that to be... very conservative though, apparently normally comes out at about 4 inches of fish p...

Actually I fed, and feed my stingrays nightcrawlers from a bait shop, and have had no problems what so ever. As to the power bait thing, I have no idea, I think most of the baits are made more for their attractiveness tot he fish than for their nutritional content.

I"m not sure about any gold rush in that area, but I do know Xingu is being dammed for hydroelectric power. The whole scheme is to put in a bunch of dams to regulate water flow, so there aren't any seasonal variations. No dry or wet seasons, as well as producing many lakes filled with rotting v...

That is pretty darn cute. My best would probably be the gold nugget and the L200 on the filter outflow after a water change has brought the water level up... they're the 2 that get that inche or so of great algae that everyone else is too wussy to go after. but they sometimes come out of the water p...

The responsible fishkeeper will find the info before going into a shop to make a purchase. The burden of finding information rests on the aquariasts shoulders, not the shops. Well, the fish you're keeping together aren't exactly the best idea in the first place... goldfish and tropicals are best kept seperately.
