Re: Corydoras reynoldsi Eggs

Thanks, all. More eggs hatched today. These eggs do look a bit cleaner than when I remove them from the tank or when I remove the fish from the tank. The fish run over the eggs and move them around. The eggs are not adhesive at all and easily roll off the glass and plants. They end up on the bottom ...

Re: L10a In the Spawning Tube

The male left when I put food in the tank. He went back in. And a female was in there with him....the plot thickens. I think they're trying to figure it out.....the same thing happened when I did a water change. Practise, practise.

Puffers are so neat. Anthropomorphically, (and I know I shouldn't do this,) they seem appealing to me because of the big eyes and the "smile." I know it's wrong. But, on this fish, I'll indulge. Great fish and great photo.

L10a In the Spawning Tube

Spring has been too kind to me this year. A few days ago I saw the male L10a Red Lizard go into the 3/4" white pvc spawning tube. He's been in the same general vicinity of the tube, fanning quite a bit for at least 48 hours now. We shall see what happens. We seem to have a 3 female to 1 male ra...

Re: Corydoras reynoldsi Eggs

I think this may have something to do with their survival in the tank: http://i1004.photobucket.com/albums/af166/apdraft/week2-1.jpg I almost deleted the photo. There are two small fry poking around. They're about 1-2 weeks old. All told, the tank has about 22 fry. This makes for a 100% hatching rat...

Re: Brazil Suspends Belo Monte Dam!

The "consortium" of 9 companies through the government electric company? How nice. No competition. The Belo Monte Big Dig. The $11 billion dollar bid feels like a low-ball estimate. I would think a good bit has already been spent with all the severely protracted legal and engineering fees....

Hi babies!

There are about 6 of them at 2 different ages. The older group is about 4 weeks old. The younger group is about 2 weeks old. More eggs are being placed as I write. :D

Re: Brazil Suspends Belo Monte Dam!

I heard rumors that nobody wanted to bid. It takes a lot to reach that level, especially in this economy. The worst thing that could happen would be for this thing to be built by people who don't know what they're doing. That would be scarier than anything.

The indiginous peoples are important. We are fish geeks. Fish are important to us.

I want to know who bids on this foolish thing and who low-balls it at what insane, unrealistic price. Or, if it goes the other way........that's allllllways fun!

Do you have access to the preserved specimens of any other Hypancistrus sp. to see what they look like in Formalin? It would be interesting to know how their colors change.

Re: L46 and the Belo Monte dam

I read it in the NY Times this morning and had a good cry. The judge in Brasilia stated something to the effect that the economy comes before native peoples. How Orwellian. If we meet, Janne, ask me about the time I worked on Boston's Big Dig. I never worked civil engineering again, after that. I wo...

Ask about Malaysian driftwood. It's also available online. It will sink very easily. Small rocks (non-reactive) are also important for them.

Is this the newer one where the color changes on the top? Mine all have the ones that don't change color. It's my understanding the newer ones are called "Stealth Pro" and some of the smaller ones(10w?) are pre-set to 78. I have this one set on the lowest setting and the occupants jockey f...

I love them, too. They might appreciate the temperature a little bit lower than 76. Possibly 74 or under. A powerhead for current is a good idea. I'm with Groke-they are a funny lot. Mine are in a species tank, 20 long. The 5 adults just knocked the heater off of the suction cups. Three of them are ...

Re: Is there a Sera fish food expert in the house?

I mostly trade in fish for the Sera food at LFSs. The fish seem to notice the catfish chips more than other wafer-type foods. If not, I order from Drs Foster & Smith. It's a relatively new line for them. Ken's Food is also good: the Veggie sticks and flakes are made from real vegetables; earthwo...

The Chaetostoma milesi I recently purchased did the same digging bit as soon as they got into the 20 long tank. There are 5 of them with a thin layer of sand, some small rocks and 2 medium to large pieces of driftwood. The digging was so frantic at first. I tried to plan this tank out nicely, with t...
