Damn, the male's back in the cave and the female's headed that way. He must sneak out to eat. One pair, 55 gallon tank. And I was worried about breeding them.

Re: L010a Are mine Females or Males? Video
I agree. Young males. I originally bought mine thinking there was a nice mix. They suddenly sprouted lovely long bristly beards and their overall color became more red. I even thought they were breeding! Two of them were in a tube together. It takes a while for them to mature. When they do, th...

McDonalds sponsoring the Fantasy League? What kind of toy do you get with the Happy Meal? :?: I'm just going to enjoy the action. There's a mish-mash of fans in the area from around the world. Re: Combining Farlowella and Panaque maccus
As long as there is ample "swimming" or should I say "hopping" room for the Farlowellas and enough food, they should do okay. I have Farlowellas in with Corydoras trilineatus and the Farlowellas breed regularly.

Re: Banjo Cat and Britlsenose fry
They are truly like the big monsters, but in miniature. They play dead in the substrate or imitate a branch of driftwood. Even lying sideways for days. Then they strike very quickly. I thought one of mine was a female. Turned out to be the alpha male with a stomach full of Endler's livebearers! They...

Another cause of barbel loss may be water quality, but you seem to have that under control...what other fish are in the tank? Could they be stressed or injured?

I don't have very many tanks, either(10). I feel better because I can pay attention to them.

It will be interesting to see what has happened to the Florida population of this species after the extremely cold winter they had. The non-native snake population has been reduced drastically. To the point where they couldn't find ANY in the Everglades. They usually find tons. Fish farms also had m...

Re: Organic vs conventional veggies; washing off pesticides
That's the million dollar question, me thinks. I'm not sure anybody knows what to do with the data that's coming in. Some of the chemicals have levels set by the EPA, what's "harmful" and what's "acceptable." Other chemicals found aren't even on the EPA's list. I'm not going to s...

There was a study of the water on Cape Cod, MA that just came out. There are small, measurable levels of almost any kind of chemical you can think of: pharmaceuticals, pesticides, household cleaning chemicals, you name it, it was in there in small amounts. Anything we use in our daily lives. This st...

I would think nail polish remover would be more of a problem: acetone. It dries very quickly, but to make sure, wash your hands with plain water before sticking your hand in the tank.

Re: ro water
It also depends how your water is out of the tap. If it's really a disaster out of the tap, you may not need to add anything. If it's not too bad from the tap, you may want to add something, or mix some mains water back in. I have some tanks that are 100% mains water, some tanks that are a mix of RO...
