Re: L183 is very sick!
Actually you are incorrect here as well. Lake Malawi has very hard water and the fish from that lake prefer a pH in the 7.5-8.5 range. so harder water is very good for them.

Re: L183 is very sick!
I also just want to point something else you said that is incorrect and may be contributing to you thinking your nitrate is at a good level. You said that high nitrates would result in lots of algae and this is simply not true at all. I keep many planted tanks and have nitrate readings in the 20ppm ...

Re: Corys and Hydra
Fenbendazole (Panacur-C) It's a horse/animal de-wormer. I have used it in my CRS tanks and also in my L183 starlight BN breeding tank which at one time of dosing had 1 week old fry in the tank. So I woud say its about as safe as it gets. A member over at The planted tank (which I am a member of) has...

That's pretty much what I was thinking. It took over two years for my 835's to breed waiting for them to get mature. This will be a breeze!

These are great caves. I got a variety pack from them for my L183 and shortly after adding the caves to the tank I was rewarded with my first spawn!

I cant even remember all the times I took a fish home before they were completely in the clear. Heck, all the discus I have I got at different times but from the same store because they just couldn't give them proper conditions and were on deaths door step. I lost a few but for what I payed for them...

Any experience you wish to share. Having spawned C113, S.barbatus and S. kronei, in my experience they have not required anything out of the ordinary (for my fish room) parameters to spawn. Temp was around 76º, pH - 7.0 and TDS around 120. A note of caution. Unless I use a high concentration of met...

FYI, I'm packing up a few boxes to be dropped off at the PO in the morn for Thursday/Friday/Saturday (I hope the PO doesn't stop Sat delivery, that would kill them IMO). So if you get payment to me within the next two hours (need to have it by 11pm) I can ship yours out tomorrow too! ;)

FS-L183 Starlight Bristlenose plecos
My breeding group spawned again and now the babies are big enough (1"-1.5") for me to ship. These are some of the most intriguing fish I have ever kept. They are home in either a normal community set up or a specialized amazon bio-tope. They are mostly herbivores and will absolutely demoli...

I would like to ask a side question on this topic.
Are there really and serious issues associated with keeping a fish like this or any fish that will never attain its max natural growth in home aquarium? Any health issues that is?

I'm with you on that one friend! It took my L183's about 2 years before they finally spawned. Right about the time they did spawn I was questioning everything I had done and whether or not to obtain more females, but trying to get females from a seller (pretty much anywhere) is far from an easy task...

Re: My 183's mated and I didnt even know it!!!
I didn't realize that I hadn't updated this thread in so long! I have learned quite a bit since the initial spawn of these L183's. After keeping them in the tank for a few months and getting maybe 2" and seeing no aggression or issues with the adults I saw no reason to transfer them to another ...

The BW isn't too hard to recreate. What type of water will you be using for WC's? Since I use RO/DI that is from my home system that is set up specifically for my planted tanks and breeding efforts. I have tons of DW and you should get as much as you cam too, they love and some even claim that they ...

Re: Shipping Ancistrus Fry?
Here is how I ship my L183's- Fish are 1" or over, no fasting. I use 4"x8" kordon bags and also put about a .5"x.5" cube of polyfil in each bag. I have put up to 5 in each bag and just put as much water as I think I need. I ship either USPS Priority (No DOA guarantee) or Exp...
