Re: Loracaria filamentosa

Can I suggest that we keep this thread to discuss the breeding of the fish Its uncommon that species of this group (whole Rineloricaria-group) spawn at a leaf. For spawn mostly they prefer long tubes with open ends. After hatching the fry feed brine shrimps and also small dry food. But they don't f...

Hi Mats, Now I am at home and so I can see the pictures. My last post where just some suggestions for the name "Loricaria filamentosa" without seeing the pictures at the office. I am very sure that this will be a Hemiloricaria species. But now it's impossible to say what species this could...

Re: Loracaria filamentosa

Hi, It would be a Hemiloricaria species, what ever - H.filamentosa / us a trade name - nothing more. Rineloricaria don't have long filamentous extensions. Dasyloricaria filamentosa is a cage brooder, with a size of more than 25cm. Lamontichthys filamentosus is a very nice, rare fish with extremely l...

Hi Håvard,

Thats great!
Good luck with them.
This species is one of my favourite L-Numbers.
I told Udo before he should breed them at last.
I keep my fingers crossed. Next year I would like to see the fry.

Hi, I will try to find out for you . Thanks a lot in advance! No one in Brazil likes to work with them as they are more sensetive than the normal L codes . A real shame as we collected them in all the main L code hotspots . I know about the sensitivity of the whole genus Spatuloricaria . I sold Jool...

Re: The International L-Number days thread

Hi Jeroen, Hannes got the recipe from Dani Marörin, a nice guy of the Zoo in Basel. I know that Dani is always changing the ingredients for testing. This was the last information I got from him while my last visit. As I know next to some Banana he also uses powder of Spirulina and/or Chlorella algae...

Okay, know I understand.

When do you import this great species from Peru, do you know where they are caught?

Re: Spatuloricaria sp Xingu

Hi,

There are 2 (undescribed) species of Spatuloricaria showing this high contrasting coloration.
One species come from Rio Xingú, Brazil, the other species is coming from Peru (but unfortunately don't know the direct location).
Spatuloricaria caquetae is quit differnt.

Strong current? From what I've read and witnessed, these fish are more comfortable in calm water. Definately not! I breed 4 Pseudohemiodon and 2 Crossoloricaria species, so got a lot of experience with members of the whole Pseudohemiodon-Group. All the species I kept until now likes laying in stron...

Re: Pseudohemiodon apithanos sand preference?

Hi Jeff, A good mix that would be more natural would be about 80% sand, 15% medium gravel, and a few handfuls of larger gravel. Over this you could scatter some driftwood pieces to simulate fallen branches as well as handfulls of leaves. Shanes tip is very well. Just the leafs I would ignore. Pseudo...

As I am informed rightly, there where no commercial exports of B.chauliodon until now.
Just B.macrodon was exportet once, some years ago.

It is Hemiloricaria eigenmanni.
You can recognize this species easily by its typical coloration of the fins.

Hi Mats,

I know both authors and I know that both research precise (and have a lot of own experiences) for writing articles or even books.

Hi Larry,

I have no doubt that your specimen are S.aureum, but the shown specimen of Leucosticta is definitly S.festivum.

Hi Larry, It may be right that there will be no export from Venezuela, but since a lot of years you will get thousands of breedings of S.festivum . There is no necessity for importing wildcaughts. A long time the most specimen was called S.aureum or S.panamense , but mostly you will find S.festivum ...

Hello,

I agree with Janne.
It is S.festivum in any case.
You can differenciate this species easily from S.aureum by the large fins of S.festivum.

Re: Crossoloricaria bahuaja

Hi Birger, C.bahuaja is ideal for keeping. If they are breedings the specimen are less shy and you will see them often laying on the sand. Wildcaughts will bury themselbve deeply in the sand for the first month. Crossorloricaria species are faster in searching food than Pseudohemiodon . C.bahuaja is...

Hi Jools, All Pseudohemiodon have no differences in the barbels of the mouth between both sexes. Hi Racoll, In my opinon the chapter about sexing is not complete. It is relatively easy to sex mature Pseudohemiodon and near related genera if you will have a look on the genital papilla. Hi,

Please change the ground from gravel to sand!
Species of the subtribe Planiloricariina including Planiloricaria cryptodon need imperative fine Sand to bury themselve. Otherwise your specimen will chafe what comes along with a bacterial infection.
