Is your aquarium well planted? Otos really like algae. Zucchini or peas may be a good supplement. Take the vegies (slice zuchini or cucumbers) add water. Nuke in microwave. place in tank....Within 2 to 3 days no more vegies. Other thoughts are you feeding them any algae disks? My last question is th...

I think I'd go with the otos. I have 4 zebra, 4 zebra (different markings), and 4 regular otos. They do a great job of algae eating and the supplemental zucchini and peas are devoured with abandon. Just be careful of who the otos are in the tank with. I believe I lost 1 or 2 small ones from a synodo...

I have one question to add to the list of Cory Myths. That they are the only ones that blink... I've had otos, synos, and plecos blink at me.... As to the chlorine in the water, in small amounts it helps. A problem may occur when the chlorine concentration gets too high...HCl and we have a caustic f...

I concur with the bristlenose.

I would also ask what type of Cichlids you have. If they are small and not the overly aggrressive (affrican type) you might get away with otos. But again the cichlids MUST BE SMALL and NOT VERY AGGRESSIVE

Good luck,

I hate to disagree with all of you, but the cyanide is added by some of the harvesters to slow the otos down. This comes from a reputable source - someone who actually observed these actions. Unfortunately I forget his name, but he gave a great talk! Let's see, I did not have any otos in the tank, l...

I use to raise rabbits for 4-H. I use to raise them for the meat pen, show, etc.. Rabbit Pellets are the best thing to feed them. If you, or your neighbor fertilize, or chemically treat your lawn..you may not have many rabbits in the near future. Generally the cages were big enough for 2 to 3 rabbit...

The smallest :P cory Cats are the C. habrosis, C. hastatus, and C. pygmaeus. These are unique in that 2 of the 3 will spend plenty of time at mid-level (not a typical cat-like area). They seem to be happy in large groups of 10 or more and the blooping is more spectacular since they have alot further...

The LFS had a picture and the scientific name for the A. hancockii. It appears to match the characteristics for a A. hancockii.

I just thought they were growing at an extremely slow rate.

Re: Merodontotus Tigrinus - Questions

Well, you should always cater for the maximum potential size, and I believe that you should take the shortest horizontal dimension of the aquarium to be the potential body length + 50% of the largest-growing fish (so for instance, a fish that potentially grows to 2ft should have an aquarium with th...
