Is your aquarium well planted? Otos really like algae. Zucchini or peas may be a good supplement. Take the vegies (slice zuchini or cucumbers) add water. Nuke in microwave. place in tank....Within 2 to 3 days no more vegies. Other thoughts are you feeding them any algae disks? My last question is th...

I think I'd go with the otos. I have 4 zebra, 4 zebra (different markings), and 4 regular otos. They do a great job of algae eating and the supplemental zucchini and peas are devoured with abandon. Just be careful of who the otos are in the tank with. I believe I lost 1 or 2 small ones from a synodo...

I have one question to add to the list of Cory Myths. That they are the only ones that blink... I've had otos, synos, and plecos blink at me.... As to the chlorine in the water, in small amounts it helps. A problem may occur when the chlorine concentration gets too high...HCl and we have a caustic f...

I hate to disagree with all of you, but the cyanide is added by some of the harvesters to slow the otos down. This comes from a reputable source - someone who actually observed these actions. Unfortunately I forget his name, but he gave a great talk! Let's see, I did not have any otos in the tank, l...

I use to raise rabbits for 4-H. I use to raise them for the meat pen, show, etc.. Rabbit Pellets are the best thing to feed them. If you, or your neighbor fertilize, or chemically treat your lawn..you may not have many rabbits in the near future. Generally the cages were big enough for 2 to 3 rabbit...

I have not had much problem with feeding my group of otos. I've fed them pieces of zucchini or peas thatI put in a glass of water and nuked in the microwave until the water was boiling and then put the vegetable in. Feeder guppies will be in there for short times I think you will find the feeder guppies ending up as permanent residents, since the fish you propose are not very likely to eat them. What kind of fish will they eat? My house will not allow very large tanks (It's an old 1948 house), so I don't want ...

All, I have a 50-gallon long tank that I am anticipating to bring on-line in about 6 to 7 months. My concern is what fish will getalong with what and how much will the water be overstressed with fish. 1 Sailfin PLECO 3 Hoplosternums (Type not determined as of yet) 2-3 Pimodellas 3 Angelfish or other...

How much planting foilage do you have? My wife is in charge of the plants (and they may be over planted) but the plecos are under some tall plants with broad leaves that shield them from the plant lights. I believe Silurus is correct with the hiding issue. In fact, I see my Pleco once a day for abou...

This is very interesting. I have a Gibbeceps (Sailfin Pleco) who is currently 7" long. A Synodontis Eupterus who is 5"long, and four Clown loaches of 2", 2.5", 4" and 4" in length. There are other tank mates, but this intrigued me. The clown loaches seem to run the tank...

Re: cory's in a planted tank
I am going to be setting up a 29 gallon planted aquarium within the next few months, and am planning on stocking it with a small group of corys. The smallest :P cory Cats are the C. habrosis, C. hastatus, and C. pygmaeus. These are unique in that 2 of the 3 will spend plenty of time at mid-level (not a typical cat-like area). They seem to be happy in large groups of 10 or more and the blooping is more spectacular since they have alot further...

Corybreed, What size of tank did you use? What would be the smallest feasible? If I mix the 4-line Pimodella with the P. Ornatus would that create problems? My plan is to include 3 Hoplosternums (If I can find them), 1- PLECO, 3-Pimodella (TBD), and Some Angelfish. It seems like I would be loading u...

I am interested in obtaining either Pimodella Ornatus and/or the 4-line Pimodella and need to understand if they are like Cories and need to have 1 to 2 additional similar species or the exact same species? P. Gibbeceps growth rate
All, I picked up 2 sailfin Pleckos about 2 months ago. One is lighter colored with dark spots and the other is dark in color with light spots. When purchased at the LFS they were similar in size. Re: Merodontotus Tigrinus - Questions
Well, you should always cater for the maximum potential size, and I believe that you should take the shortest horizontal dimension of the aquarium to be the potential body length + 50% of the largest-growing fish (so for instance, a fish that potentially grows to 2ft should have an aquarium with th...
