Re: World Cup 2010

Our coverage was awful! They were like,"We didn't see what he did. He didn't do aaaaaannnnyyyyythinggggg."
I should try watching the Spanish language coverage, even though I can't understand Spanish. At least when a card is deserved, I'll know it.

I would also think that's a juvenile salamander/newt/skink of some kind. Almost looks like a Slimy Salamander. The adults emit a musky odor. The Red-Back Salamander is closer to your area and it's also known to have populations without the red stripe and some populations are all black. Around here, ...

Re: Oto attaching to guppies...?

My Otos suck on everything. They're always eating. If an object sits in one place for long enough, an Oto will attach itself. I also see it with Farlowellas (always hungry), Peckoltia (fry, less than 1 month old usually) and Ancistrus.

Do they ever add chlorine or chloramines to your water? Another thing can be run-off, if you have well water. Just thinking out loud.

I have an XP2 and it's been up and running for about 5 years. The input/outputs are cheesy. I replaced them with the Eheim ones that you can buy separately. I have it on a 29 gallon tank and it runs well. I found these to be a good introduction to the world of canister filters.

Some on the US are young pups, but a few are quite a bit older, like on the European teams. If local youth soccer leagues are any indication, there will be a lot of kids coming up the ranks. It is very popular, year-round, indoors and outdoors. We've got both around here. Although the young'uns in o...

I went through this the other day and it really paid off: After a power outage, do a quick walk-through of your fishroom. Make sure all the filters are in proper working condition. For some reason, 1 or 2 may not restart. When filter cleaning outputs, make sure to have the holes facing AWAY from you...

For me they're not sensitive, but many people seem to have a "fear" of killing them. I don't think they'd do well in a community setting, because they're so shy. The 2 people that I got them to, through my club, for breeders points still have them and they look the same as mine. From what ...

Don't want your fish getting stuck in the tube of the sponge filter? Take a media bag, cut a hole just big enough for the airline, place over the tube and duct tape in place.

Save some of your RO waste water for your plants.

Thanks, folks. It's always amazing what's just an hour away from home. Massachusetts is not always known for fish diversity. But, that's why we go looking. The Fish Of Coastal Massachusetts And Then Some

Some members of our fish club set out to do some collecting in Southeast Massachusetts. Members scouted out a few areas and anticipated collecting a few Fundulus spp. and maybe some sticklebacks and/or darters. Good thing we actually go collecting, eh? Collecting spot #1: Lafayette Park, Freetown, M...
