Re: My Cory catfish has lost his face
Cory's dont do well on sharp edges. Once an injury sets in it can be hard to cure. Example a sharp edge puts a small cut in a barbel bacteria infection follows.
One of the more experianced at recovering from this sort of injuries might advise more but the fish may not be able to feed at present.

Re: Opinions about stirring sand or gravel during weekly water changes?
Okay this is proving an interesting read for me atleast. Lets see if my basic understanding is right. The traditional basic tank guide is fish waste into substrate and filter > breaks down or trapped. Filter is cleaned in tank water and nitrates removed by waterchange. Substrate is cleaned by gravel...

Re: Opinions about stirring sand or gravel during weekly water changes?
In a week its unlikely much if anything would build up. Unless some really messy fish present and nothing cleaning up. Personally I dont use deep substrate mines normally 1-3cm thick. This was advice given to me over 20 years ago and have kept to. It doesnt mean to say you cant but mines worked for ...

Well done I am really jealous I have been trying to get more of these. Got 2 and a 3rd that was tiny never made it sadly and they are the size of your little ones. They eat like pigs but don't grow fast.

If she is not jumping at around the time you change the water its not likely to be the cause. She sounds like she might be hungry going for algae around the water line perhaps.

How about some of the more decorative snails? I realise you were expecting a catfish suggestion but wouldn't rule them out if you want a clean up crew.

My 2p worth. To my knowledge a BN will not eat hair algae. I do however know amano shrimp eat it along with helping keep things clean. Oil Catfish / Honeycomb?
These came in at a local pet store and couldn't help myself. Long term suspect they will share happily with cory's and clown pleco's I have. In the short term as bad a quality of pictures I have will make it hard but possibly a start. They are not frilled about light so have had all the tanks in the...

Well purchased as a clown pleco and I think that's a correct Id from a trawl in the images here. Believed male, rarely leaves his wood or cave of choice. Thought I would share some pictures as in 3 years only found 1 for sale in local shops to me and really glad I bought. WP_20150205_18_36_12_Pro.jp...

Re: Flag Tail Porthole Barb Damage
Sadly the fish did not survie it appears despite not appearing thin was not feeding. I dont know if it was the salt, higher temp, alder cones or just the volume of damage it took was to much. It prevented any infection but in the end the fish just wouldnt feed.

Contact the medicine support department for help. They may have advise for you.
If you want to medicate, smallish fish is preventing it setup a 2nd small filter to mature it quickly and you can setup a largeenough bucket or plastic box to serve as a temp home.

If I gotmy ID right my one took a while to adjust to eating anything.
Slow to come out and feed even now. He's taking hikari algae wafers, hikarai sinking wafers, JBL tablets and a few other bits but does take time to warm to a new food.

Re: What catfish to keep?
What do you want to keep? Something active in bright light? Or plant friendly? Bigger fish tend to arrange the tank to suit them in terms of gravel and plants. A popular suggestion will always be corydoras as many will be happy in this size tank. Glass catfish the smaller of the 2 types i know of fo...
