Re: Adding fish to my aquarium, need help to choose!
As you have L397, you will keep the tank warm. And neither Apistgramma or Cleithacara maroni like it that warm. So I think you better refrain from keeping them in this tank. increasing the school is always a good idea Yes, I agree the bigger tetra school is a better idea, but fwiw,, both Apistogram...

I am wanting to get me some m blue to see if it makes a difference with them. Be carefull with the stuff. I use sand from the road builder. I once ordered a cubic meter, and it is still there. It did contain a lot of clay, but that was in 2004. What kind of sand you use, in most cases your fish will not mind. Dark is often better than light, if it is just as fine, and fine-ness is important. The grains ...

Re: C panda and S barbatus as roomies
I would not combine them
S barbatus likes their watter cold, and rapidly moving. 12 C in winter and 18 in summer would be what I expect them to prefer.
C panda is more a normal Corydoras, preferring 24 C and slowly moving water.

I would suggest keeping other fishes
Plecos need hiding places, and yes, yhose that eat wood excrete a lot of woodpowder. But eityher you appreciate that, or you let the filter do the job.
If you cannot stand the look, clearly you should keep other fish

Re: About filtration
Generally speaking, in the average filtered tank, around half the nitrogen cycling bacteria are living in the filter, the rest does not. Therefore, stopping the filter would reduce the cycling capacity to half, but in 8 hours the capacity can be back to what it was. Can, not will, because in many ci...

The analysis does seem to be sound. I think it was quite a nasty way to die.
Now you know what happened, and how to prevent this from happening again, I think the chamber can be used again for your research.

I never heard of any tetra laying eggs being only 1 cm. Therefore this explanation of what happened cannot be right. But, on the other hand, delayed hatching is also not something commonly found. You did rule out any chances of having acquired the eggs twice? Than delaying hatching must be what happ...

Re: Please help Zamora with fungus
Fish which are sensitive to medicines are not necessarily sensitive towards ordinary salt.
Fungus, that is most kinds of underwater fungus, are quite sensitive towards salt.
Depending on the possibilities, I'd prefer trying a saltbath, with around 3 gram a liter of salt, NaCl.

The fishes Shovelnose mentioned are all small. Very small, and therefore it is fitting to keep them in a very small tank. If I'm informed correctly, in Germany it is forbidden to keep fish in a smaller tank, and I think they are right. As far as I know, Germany is the only country to heve regulated ...

Contrarily to Horlack, I think the results are quite logical. Clarias is quite an agressive species, and in a rectangular tank, there are corners where fish can be cought. Being cornered like this could raise stress levels and stress prevents growht, amongst others. And around the end of the experim...

Re: Is it ethical to export old fish?
I think you are right asking this question. After all, small fish don't breed, yet, but large fish do. If one would take out 50 % of the fry from one season, the other half will have a greater change of growing out to maturity - there is more food, predators will find other prey. Therefore, taking o...

Hardness, just as conductivity (your TDS measurement is a condictivity measurement) are all linear scales. That is, if 2 units are around, the reading will be twice as high. So yes, 2 parts RO and 1 part tapwater of 18 GH will make 6 GH in total. pH is another matter. Firstly the scale is logarithmi...

I would never use CO2. Because it is the stuff our fish breath out, putting more of it into the water will make it harder for the fish to get rid of their waste product, resulting in more acidic blood. Now if one needs a low pH, there are other, better solutions. lowering the pH with peat, old leave...

I'm surprized your rainwater is pH 7.0. As we all know, CO2 is one of the gasses in the air, and this one does dissolve rather good. CO2 is also known als carbonacid, and it does make your water tart. Still your rainwater is pH = 7.0. I would assume something, perhaps a concrete roof dissolves a bit...

I would be very carefull with dipping tillandsia in fish water. Remember, in South America the thrive on rainwater only.
