substrates from other countries....Sand from Rio Xingu?

Here's my reply to "Sand from Rio Xingu?"thread via my own thread. There is a chance that you can spread diseases or organisims via substrate such as Myxobolus cerebralis . I am not saying your fish can get this or that it exists in the Rio Xingu. Since exploration and scientific study is ...

You can also hook up the old filter and the new one in the new tank for a week or two until the New filter is "cycled". The old filter can be hooked up to the fish "tote" and run until the new tank is all set up. at some point (before I add the fish to the new tank) I would seed ...

I agree with Larry. You can build a wood and glass tank much cheaper. Just do a search on this site for plywood tanks and do one using your favorite search engine. you will end up useing plywood, glass and fiberglass resins. you can then fill this tank with what ever you like... and finish the outsi...

I agree with snowball on the overflow/weir and sump. I don't think it will be as big of deal getting the flow and pump right... it will be more of a deal making sure you don't have a flood on your hands if the pump stops or backs up and the overflow just keeps siphoning. I would check out some of th...

To bring fish back in the USA, you need them inspected by a us fish and game officer. They will normally let you come through with a couple of fish. Any more than 3 or 4 fish, they will want to see an import license. Make sure to mention that they are for personal use and NEVER mention that you migh...

I would put the both spray bars in vertically not horizontally. I think your Idea of having one of the returns part way could work... but don't forget that the wood and any other thing in the tank will inhibit the flow. I Think I would just put them on opposite ends and lose one of the inline heaters.

I will try and get down there this week and get a picture of the shoal of ottos and some close ups of some of the cats. We are working on getting some cool(odd) cats from S.A. to add to the tank. We will most likely do a direct import.

aim the canister filter return down infront of the powerheads or change it to a spray bar to decrease the surface speed of the water. I have hatchets in my rivertank that do fine.... and I have more current than you do in your tank.

Hi whitepine, I bought the same fish(LDA025 pitbul pl*cos) and out 6 four are like your P. jumbo and two are a pair P. spilosoma. Pit bull pl*cos are currently in fair supply in the PNW at this time. I am finding them to be a nice change from common otos. The Ancistrus is an interesting find, were ...
