Re: Chaetostoma (L444?) feeding concerns
Ever since deciding upon keeping riverine fish, I've looked at these catfish so many times in Aquajardin, loving their unique look. Not long after acclimatising him/her to the 5-footer, I began to question whether I should have placed this specimen in my riverine Rio240, as this Chaetostoma is dwarf...

Re: Chaetostoma (L444?) feeding concerns
Not tried veggies yet, no, but perhaps I might try a bit of cucumber or some corgette (zucchini I think its called in USA). Perhaps brought on by the concern about not seeing it eat food I add to the tank, I noticed its belly looked a little sucken, which then made me more concerned as most healthy ...

Chaetostoma (L444?) feeding/behaviour concerns
I bought a ~6cm TL specimen about a week and a half ago and I've still yet to see it eat anything I add to the tank (Tetra Prima, Hikari algae wafer, defrosted "tropical quintet" as treat), although I have seen it occasionally graze the tank sides for algae (of which there is plenty. I hav...

I have eleven (I think), ~3.5-5cm TL tank (4-months old), bred Lionhead Cichlid youngsters looking for new homes! These fish would settle in great with the likes of Synodontis brichardi and Chaetostoma species catfish, who enjoy cool (22C) turbulent water (8-12x water turnover per hour). Given these...

Brochis multiradiatus... Redness at top of pectoral fins?
I was lucky enough to be able to buy two batches of these fish last week for a great price (last four of the adult batch that were at Aquajardin plus some privately owned specimens that came from same shop), to end up with a group of seven in my 5-footer. However, I don't know whether I need to be c...

Hyalobagrus Flavus, Shadow Catfish, with hard water?
My LFS has had a group of midwater catfish in stock for a few weeks now, that were unlabelled and reminded me of the African striped catfish variants. These guys were ~5cm TL; with a couple of spots above and below the lateral line black band. After scouring photos here at PC, I believed they were S...

Oxyropsis acutirostra experiences?
Those of you in the UK may have been aware of an auction for these not so common fish, at the Kesgrave Tropical Ebay store, that finished earlier today... I was really tempted to get a group, but a few things concerned me, which prevented me buying... How "fragile" are they compared to my ...

Re: Oxyropis or Hypoptopoma?
Okie dokie, I shall keep an eye out for when either of them are on the front facing glass of the tank! The highly defined "cell-like" structure on the belly looks very familar, comparing your H. thoracatum shot to what I remember my two looking at, but I shall work on that photo and upload...

Re: Oxyropis or Hypoptopoma?
Thanks for the input during the week. I must admit that I had suspected them of being H. inexspectatum for months, as I thought I could see the unique "crack line" along the snout on some photos, but then the other week I saw the thread that showed the red eyes of this fish and mine don't ...

Oxyropis or Hypoptopoma?
http://img692.imageshack.us/img692/3669/img1121g.jpg Uploaded with ImageShack.us For months I thought these were Hypoptopoma inexspectatum, possibly even a pair, as this photo shows one of them with a slight "hook" to the dorsal spine at the front. But then yesterday, I visited the Kesgra...

Re: Phyllonemus typus locational information
I picked up a small Tanganyikan catfish from Aquajardin in FairOak this week, which had been there unlabelled for at least a month. Until the manager came along, we all thought it was a "wood catfish" sharing a tank with the likes of Steatocranus tinanti, Ctenopoma acutirostre and Synodont...

Re: Aquajardin Southampton -Catfish stock
I shall take my Veho Muvi mini-camcorder with me on my next visit (for shots of that catfish in with S. brichardi, if its now been snapped up, given its vibrant candy stripes in a bare QT tank), almost certainly between now and the weekend, as they are just ten minutes away and it has been about two...

Re: Chaetostoma?
Thanks for the input so far! :) Some comments made me start looking further afield than just the Chaetostoma genus, which resulted in me finding Lasiancistrus cf. caucanus, often accidentally shipped with Chaetostoma. Lasiancistrus cf_caucanus Granted, the intensity of the colouring is quite differe...

Re: Aquajardin Southampton -Catfish stock
Aquajardin is my favourite LFS by a country mile, their "leftfield" stocking really grabbed my attention when trying to decide what route to go with when I had my Rio240 back in March (since then I have bought four other tanks, including a 540l). Sam, the manager, has been a great source o...

Re: Asian catfish from the location of Etroplus and Barilius
I'm curious how this will work out. I think I can get a fair number of fish, or at least the next best thing, to build up a nice biotope tank. It's probably not exactly the right species; but that river has Garra's. I have a shoal of baby Garra rufa still in my pool; I ditch the Ancistrus and add t...
