Re: Catfish community
What no the featherfin is going into a 125 gallon yes us gallons. He has lived in my 75 how whole life and will be moved to a 125 in June to live with an Oscar and 7 silver dollars. I don't know why you think its a shame I own one he is very healthy is 7 inches and far and full of energy in all asp...

Re: Catfish community
What are the dimensions of this 75 (US?) gallon tank? What gH hardness do you mean by "a bit hard?" Hardness does not always go hand-in-hand with pH, for example you can get soft, alkaline water In some respects, it is a little shame that you have a Synodontis eupterus already that new fis...

Re: catfish for my tank
I own a 3ft tank it contains 2 angelfish a group of 4 Congo tetras 2 silver flying foxes 2 Siamese flying foxes what catfish can I add to my tank??? You have only given one dimension of the tank, presumably ~90cm in length, which in my opinion is too small for any of your existing fish, unless you ...

Re: Featherfin squeaker catfish (syno eupterus) has ich??
Sorry to read the update. :( This end result reminds me a little of my juvenile Synodontis decora wipeout through Ich, where I boosted the temp from ~22C to ~30C with Protozin meds over a few hours and despite silly amounts of water rippling, I lost all six (plus my original male Steatocranus and on...

Hell, Nice. A first brichardi for you? You seem be a syno aficionado :) Yes, i have two brichardis. And 6 other Synodontis species. Best regards Marvin As someone who is awful at updating my own "My cats" list (I have 10+ Mochokidae species in my tanks), you should add your specimens to t...

Re: Synodontis brichardi
Nice find! They are so uniquely shaped in the syno world, love my trio. Are they uniquely shaped? Soloni & Caudalis aren't far off.... although we don't see these too often They are a fantastic species & the only syno I've seen use their mouth to cling to the glass like a pleco (or chilogla...

Re: Synodontis schoutedeni
Lovely looking, moderate sized syno!
No sign of the the common "golf ball" stomach that Synodontis schoutedeni there, my specimen (bought at auction in 2014 IIRC at ~9cm SL) is now ~11cm SL and currently has a huge belly.

Re: Syno Angelicus... have we made a terrible mistake?
I've had a Synodontis angelicus for ~10 months now, bought at auction at ~12cm SL or so, so not that long. The smallest fish that lives in the same tank is my male Empire Gudgeon, who is ~7cm SL and ~3cm deep. Absolutely no issues at all and the gudgeon often skulks around at the tank base level. Ot...

Re: past Euchilichthys ?
Can you recall what SL size this specimen was, dmcat? How long did you have it for and how much do you think it grew in that time? I was lucky enough to get 5 Euchilichthys spp. in September 2012, I think four of them were E. guentheri and one was a E. royauxi, all arriving at ~9-10cm SL size. I sti...

Re: rescue with a synodontis ill-treated
Good to see an update after the summer, glad Alfred is still doing well! I am incredibly bad at killing plants, my most recent ones to suffer were my Cabomba coroliniana and I have a tiny bit of Hygrophila difformis alive from last December, but the ones that have stayed alive for me for ~5 years ar...

Re: Help me pick a Synodontis!
From what I can gather, only a handful of the many syno species have bred naturally in hobby tanks, including Microsynodontis sp. 1 (a great candidate for your tank) and several Rift Valley species. I still have two Microsynodontis sp.1s in my ~120x45x55cm tank of small/peaceful fish, they are at le...

Re: What is this little giraffe?
The mottling on the head and on the body "giraffe spots" reminds me of when my one was ~10cm SL or so, now days away from being 3 years since buying him/her and ~30cm SL or so, this same catfish normally has has a uniform creamy brown head and body with just a small section of quite sharpl...

Re: black and white catfish
Most synos are very unfussy as regards food, from my experience. Mine typically get a mixture of Tetra Prima; New Era (Catfish Pellets; Plec Pellets; broken up Tropical Grazer); JMC Catfish Pellets; along with the various bits of fresh fruit and veg I drop in my 6-foot tank for the Distichodus. Mine...

Re: Tetra LifeGaurd and "scaleless" fish, i.e. Synodontis nigriventris
I also do 50% weekly water changes on 4 of my 5 tanks (my 6-footer gets 2x ~33%), but these days, I refill them differently. I now gradually refill them over 2/3 days, normally doing no more than ~40l in one batch, to try and make any water chemistry change more gradual. I used to refill most of my ...

Re: Tetra LifeGaurd and "scaleless" fish, i.e. Synodontis nigriventris
Never used this particular medication, but I've yet to knowingly have issues with any meds I've used on my various Mochokidae catfish (including S. nigriventris) over the last 5 years or so. As a group, they do seem to be tough as old boots. I did have 13 S. nigriventris at one point, I lost one at ...

Could do a nice sub-tropical theme (<18C for most of year) with a big group of White Cloud Mountain Minnow, a hareem of Paradise Fish and 10+ Weather Loaches in a large volume 5-foot or greater tank. Oh how I would love to have a group of Mochokiella paynei, we had two show up at the Basingstoke Association Of Aquarists auction ~19 months ago, adorable little things! Hopefully they will all become a bit bolder, once the S. nigriventris have settled in.
