Sorted that. Might also want to move the following as they aren't Ancistomus either: Ancistomus sp(1) Ancistomus sp(l147) Ancistomus sp(l208) Ancistomus sp(l210) Ancistomus sp(l424) Ancistomus sp(l430) Ancistomus sp(l487) Ancistomus sp`rio_nanay` Ancistomus wernekei If these are Peckoltia, shouldn'...

Re: Breeding size/age for L387 or other Ancistomus

Just a quick point: L387 is not an Ancistomus as currently recognised, but a Peckoltia . Armbruster et al. (2015) restricted Ancistomus to A. snethlageae , A. feldbergae , A. micrommatos , A. spinosissimus and A. spilomma . The " Ancistomus " with dorsal saddles and bands in the tail shoul...

Hi Chris, There's a detailed account of the rio Demini in Wels Atlas I (Evers and Seidel, 2005) . I recommend that book thoroughly if can get hold of it. If not, here is that section on the Demini: IMG_20180917_105419.jpg IMG_20180917_105424.jpg IMG_20180917_105439.jpg IMG_20180917_105444.jpg IMG_20...

Apologies for taking so long to get the update gltjc! Here's a shot of the tank at the moment. It's a four footer. I'll try and get some better close-ups of the fish soon. Re: Best algae eating pleco

Are Pterygoplichthys legally available in Aus? I would hope not. But if they are, then they would be the best choice.

Also, what about nerite snails? These do wonders on algae, but don't know if your other fish would see them as a snack.

Re: 5 x Trachelyichthys exilis

The combination of congested roads and high fuel prices often make road travel in the UK a pretty miserable experience. The population density stats say it all really: 271 per square km (UK) vs. 33 per square km (USA). Therefore all other things being equal, we have roughly ten times more cars on an...

Confirmed by local fisheries staff as C. nigrodigitatus, and matches photos in their guide book pamphlet.

Feel free to add the photos to the CLOG.

Re: New Pseudolithoxus

In the scientific sense "known" is to have specimens with locality data deposited in a museum.

The L number reports from the Trombetas and Jauaperi appear legitimate though, so there's no reason not to add the localities to the CLOG.

Yes, these don't bear a lot of resemblance to the fish in the CLOG, so I was going on info in Seegers, but that isn't great either.

In fact the exact same photo of C. nigrodigitatus in Seegers, is in the CLOG under .

Chrysichthys from Côte d'Ivoire

, I guess?

Has the humeral spot and the big dorsal fin with black edge, but the lower caudal-fin lobe is larger rather than smaller than the upper.

Re: L135 Trio

Also: L121 is definitely not same as L135 and L305 like the cat e-log claims. Sure, there are differences, absolutely. I guess the issue is that I don't like the idea of "retiring" L-numbers. For me, being L135 and being Peckoltia braueri do not need to be mutually exclusive. I would call...

Re: L135 Trio

I just had to double check to be sure. But my fish are not P. braueri. P. Braueri shows 8 dorsal ray fins while L135 only show 7. P. Braueri origins from the Rio Takutu while L135 is from Rio Demini. I'm fairly sure L135 is P. braueri . The Takutu, upper Branco, Demini share a lot of the same speci...

Re: Notes on the snub nose

for hypoxia to be a factore, keep in mind that it could be hypoxia in the egg... so perhaps some eggs (e.g., perhaps in middle of egg mass) get less oxygen than eggs more superficially located. That was my thinking too. If hypoxia were to blame, it would follow that there should have been more indi...

Notes on the snub nose

Nice blog post here about snub nosed fishes in nature.

The hypoxia hypothesis seems quite plausible.

Re: The shy nature of my L270

I would agree that the water is too cold for Hypancistrus. This would explain their lack of activity.

I collected these fish in the wild, and the temperature was upper 20s.

I would also maybe remove the duckweed and add more water movement at the surface.

Prefilters are great. Since using one I've never looked back. Really improves the performance of the canister filter in my opinion, and saves a lot cleaning effort. I think as long as it becomes part of the weekly tank maintenance, I don't think clogging will be too much of an issue. It's a good ide...
