Teresa, The fact it's eating and so many days have past are positive signs. Don't give up just yet. Even if all fungus is not gone try not cleaning for a few days. New skin may be trying to form and the cleaning will interrupt the process. Do you have anything that acts as a slime coat? It will help...

Re: Pseudacanthicus sp L025
Either the entrance to the cave has a rough edge or there is a glob of clay stuck to the inside of the cave when it was fired. I use a hard rock to knock down the edges. Do both the inside and outside edges. Use whatever works for the inside and make sure it is smooth. You will know bite marks when ...

Re: Just some photos of my favourite fish
I only now reveal the successful spawns. This keeps everyone guessing what I'm working on currently . Let's just say I have access to 24s but there are others ahead.

A photo would help. A half dose probably won't do much as they have already figured in a margin in of safety for the recommended dosage. The half strength 'rule' was created back when ick treatments had not been made specifically for scale-less fish. Then like a wafer topping it was spread over to a...

Re: Just some photos of my favourite fish
For me both the L24 and L25 are the most difficult to sex even as adults. I have seen females with more growth than my other male breeders! I have never had any luck looking at their vents, perhaps because I have bifocals and can never find the right way to look at them. So just for the record I am ...

Waiting is usually the best action. If they don't look distressed then there is no need to rush. BTW I forgot to mention, cleaning a damaged area can be as simple as using a paper towel or a q-tip (a small wood rod with cotton on the end. You have more interesting names over there) to get down to th...

Re: Pseudacanthicus sp L025
Excellent dorsal view photos. I always have trouble with taking good ones. Looks like a pair. Almost all information about pseuda behavior is based on improper care and a lack of understanding. One example is brightly lit bare bottom tanks. They may be easy to clean but would you like to live like t...

Re: L397 with skin lesion, below eye. But my question: is melafix safe to use in plecos.
Sorry to chime in late but I don't always have time to check PC. Pimafix and melafix are both safe for plecos when one understands how it works and how to treat wounds. I have used both for all my expensive and rare fish since 2008 in tanks up 300 gallons. First, both of these additives are not 'qui...

It is nice to see you have put thought into the problem in advance! The space is a bit tight but can work. I keep a breeding pair of 10" L160s in a standard 125 gal hooked into my automatic water change system. I have sponge filters and a fluval 405. Short comments Not too much wood- water volu...

Re: 3x l114 need help on sexing
My guesses are male, female, female. The main difference between the males and females are: 1. Males are shaped like an exclamation point (!) They are wide at the head and have a gentle taper to the tail. 2. The pelvic fins of the males are straight across the back where the females are a teardrop sh...

Looks a lot like a L129. Top view is the best way to see the difference. The L340s have bumps on their chin where as the L129s have a smoother profile.

Re: New L-number Pseudacanthicus spawn at only 5"
Thanks for the kind words. First and second spawns are still very difficult. The remaining fry are growing quickly. Since I was late in discovering them most were starving and did not recover. There are about 10 left. I feed them Thera A from the start. It needs to be ground smaller for the first fe...

New L-number Pseudacanthicus spawn at only 5"
This one qualifies for my first true surprise spawn and for two reasons no less! I was not working with this group of LDA07s and they spawned at only 5”. I have been working with larger L114s, L273s, and Lda07s the past few months. I also had 4 smaller ones in a large grow out tank with 1-2’ L160s. ...

Interesting choice for a first post. There is little value in this 5 year old thread.
I'm only commenting to clarify the subtle inference of Taksan's post. They were referring to them being taken out of the country by boat to Peru to be sold.

Looking for an adult L600 female
I want to form another breeding pair to maintain genetic diversity.
A friend will be attending the Konvention in Wisconsin this weekend and is willing to transport any fish for me.
Thanks,
Jim

Johannes, I say this with kindness from having the same experience about 6 months ago, you are making too many conclusions with flawed assumptions. When you run water that soft how you measure and what you use to measure is important. I have found that dip strips, hand held meters, and titration kit...

Re: Plecos dying! :-(
Jobro, suddenly loosing fish is always stressful no matter how long you have kept fish. Complicating the issue is we have replaced "wait and see" with a "fix it now" mentally. It took me along time to learn to slow down. Your first statement is the key but was never followed up. ...

Good first controlled attempt. Hopefully your notes will help you think of something different to try next time. To me the methodical process is far more rewarding then beginners luck :-p Of course I am still waiting to personally experience beginners luck :-\ (Hope I chose the right smilies). Jim

Sounds like good progress. Does the larger one leave the cave at night? I have been fooled before where they cave all day but leave about an hour after the lights go out. You mentioned one trying to get into the cave. Is there enough room for two.

Please provide more information to get best answers. What size tank and what type of filtration do you plan to use? What looks good in a book may not work long term. Example: a 180 gallon tank with an FX5, sand base, and large plecos = BAD IDEA! Sand gets moved / dug up, gets sucked into filter, clo...

Re: Panaque sp L191 : let's go for a spawning tentative
I like people who are not afraid of 'big' challenges! A few things come to mind; Did I read correctly that you use a net? It is much safer to use containers with the larger fish even with the weight. Fish at this size are much more tolerant to change that would harm/kill smaller ones. Having experie...
