N. rubrocaudatus Spawning

Greetings. I hope this post is appropriate, here. Just looking for a place to show off. lol. Over the past few months I have divested myself of most of my livebearers in an effort to start attempting to spawn species that I have been wanting to do for years. These include wild bettas, paradise fish ...

Re: C. gracilis - It only took 5+ years.

Greetings. First pics of my C. gracilis fry. Both groups are now spawning regularly and by regularly, I mean virtually non-stop. Lots of fry from one-day to around 45 days. Should have plenty to offer up, in the spring. Cheers. - Frank

Re: Food for corydoras pygmaeus fry

I realize that names of fish are always changing, but the fish that I have always kept with C. hastatus are what can be found as Odontostilbe kriegi and/or Serapinnus kriegi, commonly referred to as Tetra Kriegi. I cannot tell you if that is the same fish that you are referring to, but when you plac...

Re: Breeding C. habrosus ?

For those who have bred this species, I've read what I could find on here and on the web, but one question I have (among many) is, what size/age do these little guys breed at ? Most Corys start breeding at around 9 months. I've had some start going through the motions at 6 months and start spawning...

Re: pulcher vs. ornatus

We shall see. I picked up a bag of play sand while out running errands today. I don't think it's physically possible to get it clean, but washed it for nearly an hour in an attempt. I now have a shallow layer in the tank with these corys. I want to see how they do before committing all my cory tank...

Re: pulcher vs. ornatus

It is not that I'm adverse to the idea of using sand, but do run into a couple obstacles. The first is the availability of fine sand. I've considered using play sand, but am unsure of the quality of this and haven't been able to find anything that matches a mix of reasonable color. Greetings, Larry...

Re: pulcher vs. ornatus

Greetings Larry, Having received 2 full boxes of the fish in question, on the same order that yours arrived in, I can tell you that you have your work cut out for you. Mine contained C141's, CW028's and C. schwartzi as well as one other species I could not ID for certain, but I believe may be C. inc...

Eggs left in with adults - zero eggs or fry to be found. Eggs moved to a hatching tank - just starti...

C. gracilis - Update

Greetings. Found 107 eggs, this morning. Around 50% look viable and around 75% of them were deposited on the glass. I think it's time to put leaves in with the other group. :-) Cheers. - Frank

C. gracilis - It only took 5+ years.

Greetings. I have had C. gracilis for probably going on at least 5 years, possibly longer. Although there have been very plump females in the group, I have never seen an egg. I know it's crazy, but I am loathe to put leaves in any of my tanks, especially with fish that I may have a hard time replaci...

I have received 2 of the "new" species. One appears to be C. loretoensis and the other could be a lot of things, possibly something new, but I would not put any money on it. Pics, soon. - Frank

P.S. Received C. orcesi and C091's in the same shipment. Stunning.

Re: Suicidal corys

I take small pieces of rigid air line tubing and glue them to resemble the outlet tubes of many box filters which use them to clasp the air line. There are myriad techniques that you can employ to achieve the same result. Just look around your fish room. :-) Cheers. - Frank

Re: Corydoras ID

All three species will display variation in their colour patterns within a population, this can often cause confusion when trying to identify a species. Ian Ian - do you think that the fish in my pic is ID'd correctly. Since the photo was taken the first dorsal spine has grown, significantly, a few...

I was wondering if this was any indication that they are reaching sexual maturity and hopefully spawning will start occurring? Or if this change notes that there is x amount of time before they will be old enough to breed? Adult coloration signifies approaching sexual maturity. From that point on i...

Any experience you wish to share. Having spawned C113, S.barbatus and S. kronei, in my experience they have not required anything out of the ordinary (for my fish room) parameters to spawn. Temp was around 76º, pH - 7.0 and TDS around 120. A note of caution. Unless I use a high concentration of met...
