Re: A stupid people trick....
They're coming to get you, Barbara. . . Look. . . There's one of them now! You definately did the right thing. I recently talked the manager of the aquatics department at the local Pet Zoo out of selling Bala Sharks. "But they're so popular!" "Yes, but they grow to be up to 18" l...

What is the largest species of Corydoras?
I'm currently working my way through a teeny tiny cory phase, with a shoal of Hastatus. I'm getting to the point where I'm wanting to see how big these "sea kittens" (UGH!) can get. So what are the largest species? How hard are they to keep? To spawn?

My oto is trying to give me a heartattack.
And it is teaching bad habits to its son! I have a pair of Otos in my Corydoras breeder tank. I'm uncertain if I have succeeded in causing the Corys to spawn, but there is definately a baby oto in the tank nibbling on algae. (The tank is densely planted with Java fern, wisteria, and my Lilys are jus...

Re: Greetings from Alaska!
We're having a bit of a cold spell currently and just hit around that temp. (still nothing compared to the -50s that were all too common in fairbanks.) I live in an appartment, so there is a bit less worry about the heat going off. Of note, however, the lilys just sent up their lilypads in my cory t...

Re: Greetings from Alaska!
I'm just using generic kit heaters atm, and they work just fine. When I get my 90 gallon in the upcoming months I want to find something with its own thermostat. In truth the biggest difference between here and somewhere warmer is the utter lack of humidity in the air. I lose FAR more water in the t...

Re: Xmas wish list
Aside from a new 90 gallon tank prestocked with Rainbowfish?
Some fairy corydoras, and perhaps some daintys.

Re: Greetings from Alaska!
In Fairbanks it isn't too uncommon for it to be -30c for a whole month or two. (And getting to the negative teens is a hot-spell) Coldest I've been out is -54c, which isn't all that uncommon in Fairbanks. Anchorage is much warmer, it is rare that it gets colder than -20c here. (though anchorage gets...

Re: Corie lost barbells and then died.. contagious?
What is the PH of your tank? Pandas are also notoriously sensitive to PH, and as close to neutral as possible is good. (Or a bit on the acidic side) With Co2 injection you can go very acidic very quick. Also, how hard is your water? That could also be a problem.

Re: Reccs for Corydoras for a Rainbowfish tank?
The theme for this tank is "Nature reclaiming territory." All my tanks have some sort of theme, cory breeding tank aside. (The theme there is "plants!") I've found that the Yoyos and praecox in my current 55gallon tank really like my current castle there. They spend more time in ...

Reccs for Corydoras for a Rainbowfish tank?
My next tank will be a 75ga rainbowfish tank. I'm planning on aquascaping it with a large castle and green gravel on one end, and "Black gold" plant substrate (which is a type of sand) on the other, with a goodly number of plants. The inhabitants will primarily be rainbowfish, including Pr...

Greetings from Alaska!
Greetings! I've been using your Cat-elog here to help identify my corydoras, so I thought I'd register and list my tanks. Corydoras are my favorite family of fishes. . . even when I was a kid with just a Goldfish tank with a pair of albinos in it, they "kittenfish" were my favorite fish in...
