Really impressive. Imagine if plecos were predatory fish. Using those pectorals to grip their prey as they sucked them dry like a lamprey.
Would make me seriously rethink ever diving in the Amazon.

Re: Brazil Export Bans?
I think it depends on what perspective you look at it. The IBAMA list is a white list. Only fish listed on the list are legal to export from Brazil. Fish not identified on the list are not legal to export. If a fish is not on the list the effect is the same as if it was put on a "black" li...

Re: Milwaukee Aquarium Society Fish Bowl 2016
Fish Bowl is this weekend.
If you are in the Milwaukee Area you won't want to miss it.
I wanted to put up a list of some of the donated fish for the mini auctions between speakers but I can't seem to be able to attach a pdf file to this post.

Hi Narelle, It was nice meeting you at dinner too. Good luck with your career in research. And now a shameless plug for my alma mater. Re: Who's Going to CatCon?
Those whiptails that Wetspot donated for the raffle were really something. And the L333 they donated was one of the most beautiful I had ever seen. It was so hard not to go home with fish. But I will make up for it this weekend at the Fish Bowl I suspect. I did bring home 7 cool catfish pins from Ia...

Going to need some better pictures to do any identification. How large are your Gold nuggets? They don't mature until they are about 6-7" long and are notoriously difficult to breed. It would be a very welcome surprise if they did spawn for you. At this point I would still say they are common A...

Anyone going to be selling any livebearers or tetras there. I am bringing some catfish for the tanks but they could use some upper water fish for color.

Re: Zebra Pleco Feeding
I feed mine frozen bloodworms, live blackworms, and the occasional algae discs. They really like the bloodworms and blackworms and will nibble on the disks at night. I had tried Repashy Spawn N grow and Omnivore but they didn't really take to it. I think the presentation of the food is not appealing...

Re: First L46 spawn
That's what I thought. That's not unusual for first spawns with young fish though so I am not that disappointed. I am more relieved that I now know I have males and at least one female. I was a little worried my group was all males.

Re: First L46 spawn
I got the temperature advice from Barbie. Seems to keep them happy so I haven't changed it. But maybe some seasonal change would be good. Bad news though today. The cave was abandoned and all the eggs are gone. I took a quick look last night and the eggs were still there but they didn't have the nic...

Re: Who's Going to CatCon?
You can check them through in baggage. I have a large roller bag that I insert a styro into. Double bag each bag of fish loosely (air expands at altitude). And place all fish bags inside another larger bags. If I just have one bag I carry it on with me. TSA will inspect it to make sure the fish is a...

Thanks everyone. I also like checking them with a flashlight every day. Wasn't sure if it would spook the male the first time and he kicks the eggs out.
Water temp is 89 degrees. I will check on them again Tuesday and see where they are.

First L46 spawn
Woo Hoo! The zebra plecos I bought at Catfish Cataclysm last year have finally spawned. My first L46 spawn.
Any idea how long until eggs hatch? I don't want to disturb the male by checking on them until after hatching.

It's a typical Clown pleco. Panaqolus maccus
Hypancistrus typically have a different color pattern, a narrower head, and a longer body to head ratio than Panaqolus and Panaque.

Nice. An old MARS system with some modifications (the chiller and cartridge filter are not stock MARS items).
I had an opportunity to get one years ago but just couldn't figure out how to get it home or where to put it.

Aqueon is sending me. I get in late Thursday night and will be in the Aqueon booth until mid day Sunday.
Bringing some Corydoras similis, Corydoras diphyes, and Sturisoma panamense that I will be donating to PVAS for the auction.
I may be in the market for some L236 at that time also TTA.

It's important to make sure the fish you buy are actual L397 also. Young L271 can look very much like L397 but are considerably less valuable as they are more readily available.

Re: L183 as first attempt at breeding Ancistrus?
pH and water softness are not the same thing.
You need to measure your GH to see if your water is soft.
I use straight RO water for mine (purchased as L183 but are actually L181). Water has very low GH and KH but pH values are around 7-7.5.
