Imparfinis?

Post by Yann »

Hi!!

I obtain a group a 6 fish labelled as Imparfinis sp "Paraguay", so assuming they are coming from the Rio Paraguay drainage.

Any one has an idea if the species is described...I am quite confident regarding the genus ID

Here are some pictures!!

Have they all got short barbels? Could they be Phenacorhamdia? There is a sp from the Rio Paraguay, P. hoehnei.

The head shape is wrong for Phenacorhamdia, I think. It's more likely correctly identified to genus (or maybe a Cetopsorhamdia).

Hi Guys!!

Many thanks for your answers!!
I browse throught the cat elog Heptapteridae...
I found that Nemuroglanis looks also pretty similar: Nemuroglanis sp(1)

Also among Imparfinis I found that Imparfinis mirini is very similar to my fish (at arrival), also mine lacked the black lateral line
They have since quite change and are more overall grey now..you can't really see differences of colouration

I have also witness an interesting behaviour while doing my weekly water change...
I saw 2 of the biggest specimens, swim side by side rolling up and down while swiming just like would do snake in the mating process...once they would stay side by side they would try to hit each other on the side...wondering if it is actually courtship or a normal territorial behaviour!!

Cheers

They are also similar to the fish in F F of Mata Atlantica captioned as I. minutus, albeit with less chromatophores on the flanks.

I. mirini is also in another book and it too shows the line on the body as the one in the clog. It also seems a chunkier bodied fish.

Yes it is somthing a bit like that...the side by side "kicks" were not too often

@Steven: thanks for the input...really makes me wonder what species it could be if indeed it is described!!
