Is this clarias batrachus?

Post by AteItOffTheFloor »

I've caught a couple of them, and from what I recall they don't usually have spots.

I was exploring a stream today and discovered it was fed by a swamp. Went netting about and got this guy:

Its got these spots all over its body, but its not as strikingly patterned as this guy http://www.planetcatfish.com/common/spe ... es_id=3703

A closer look at his spots

Thanks for your time.

Oh, and I'm from Malaysia. The collection place for this beaut was in Pahang.

Yup, this is C. batrachus. And almost all of the SE Asian species have spots.

Can't pretend I'm not dissapointed, but at least I'll get a meal out of it.

I'll have to look more carefully next time I catch one on a hook. For all I know people have introduced African Clarias here.

Thank you very much :)
