Pet Store Labeled C. Puntatus

Post by greysome »

As the title says, a lfs had this guy labeled as C. Punctatus--after he had been there more than a month, I felt bad about him being alone and bought him, figuring he could hang out with the metaes I went there for while I try and figure out what he was and give him his own lil species shoal. At first, I thought he might have been C003 but realized the tail was wrong. If someone could help me out so I know what species I should keep an eye out for (well, more likely, search for online once my quarantine tank is free again)

(Sorry, having trouble posting pictures on the board so until I figure that out, here's the flickr account with his pic)

Thanks for any help/advice you can offer!

Thank you very much!

The info on this site for C. leucomelas says their temperature range is between 77-79.7 F; I just want to make sure this is correct because currently, I have him with my mataes in quarantine at 73 F and had planned on keeping him in the same tank as them but if C. leucomelas prefer/need warmer temps, I will have him placed in my other tank (kept at 78 F)

The posted temperature range for leucomelas seems rather narrow for any cory. I can't speak with experience keeping this fish, but they might be okay in the lower-middle 70's. You could also consider bumping both species up to about 75. Sorry, I don't have experience with wither of these species to offer more authoritative advice.

Good luck, Eric

a belated thanks Eric and Tony! I'll keep him in the low/mid 70s then and see if I can't learn more about leucomelas. For now, he remains in the quarantine tank with the metaes but I did speak with a lfs (well, sort of local) that says they get leucomelas in pretty often (though not this latest time) so once I have a free quarantine tank again, I'll be able to get around to getting more leucomelas so he can eventaully have some species-buddies.
