filtering my 100

Post by naturalart »

Just in the beginnings of setting up a 4ft 100g. I am researching Eheim 2080, Filstar "4" XL (or whatever the term). I know that the older 2000-2010 Eheim's had problems. Anyone have experience with the newer versions of the 2080? Does it seem like the kinks are worked out? Any other opinions are welcome also.

I think the issue nots have is space as the 2078 and 2080 are much bigger than the 2075 and below. I used a 2078 on my 5' along with a 2071 (both pro 3s) and they did well. I had to send the 2071 head back to the uk distributor for a replacement as that started leaking through the head - not sure if this is the issue you mentioned but I'd hope they have ironed it out by now!

Hi Martin S, thank you for the reply. Yes this the problem people were posting about for the most part. When did your 2071 leak, what year? And do you know what year that particular filter was manufactured. Again, people who complained said it was those models manufactured between around 2000 and 2010. I would hope they resolved this issue by now also. Thanks for any info.

I sent mine back early part of last year, but know it was a couple of years old already when I got it. As I understand it, it's to do with the material used to make one of the washers - over a period of time it loosens and causes the leaking. That was the second time I'd sent one back, but had no such problem with the 2078.

Yes, that is exactly what people have been blogging about. The new owners probably started using the wrong materials for the 'washers'/ring seals. Well I am looking at the larger models anyway, so its good news that you had no problems with larger 2078. I am looking at that model or the 2080 which are better rated for my 100g. Between the Eheim and the Filstar I'll make a decision. Thanks much for sharing your experience.
