Hi all, I have been using moving bed filters on all my tank's for the last few months I was just wondering if any one else has tried them in there set ups and what their thoughts and experiences were? thanks

Hello,
I have been using this filtration for almost a year on some of my tanks.
Here is a picture of my 125g with wet/dry (54g tank), K1 moving bed (blue barrel) and aquaponic system :

I've been using them on my tanks for almost 20 years in some form or another. I've been relying on a mix of kaldness K1 and bio chips for about two years now. I wouldn't set up a system without one.

How does this compare to sinter glass media like Seachem Matrix, Eheim Substrat Pro, etc.? Seems like sintered glass media has more surface area.

Sintered glass does have more surface area, but has the problem of fragmenting over time because of the violent action within the reaction chamber. The glass also colonizes a lot faster. In the end, a lot of the media ends up getting dumped into the tank where it can be a real nuisance though.

Hi all,
I like the floating cell media as well. One advantage is that it floats if you have a power cut, which means that it doesn't become de-oxygenated as quickly as sand etc.

I should also have said that I use the K1 type media which is self-cleaning, and I don't let my filter media become clogged and anoxic.I have been using HEL-X media
