Panaque nigrolineatus gut flora

Post by dw1305 »

Hi all,
I'll post this here, rather than cluttering up the "Dissertation sticky" thread.

@bekateen posted a dissertation: Marden, Caroline Louise. (2019). Characterisation of the microbial communities in the gastrointestinal tract of wood-eating organisms. Doctoral dissertation, University of Portsmouth.

This leads on from the work of Joy Watts at Portsmouth.

If people are interested in the mechanisms of nutrient acquisition in xylophagous fish, the papers are worth a read.

The paper mentioned as "in press" in the dissertation is now published:Effect of diet on the enteric microbiome of the wood-eating catfish Panaque nigrolineatus. / McDonald, Ryan C.; Watts, Joy E. M.; Schreier, Harold J. In: Frontiers in Microbiology, 10, 29.11.2019.

cheers Darrel

Thanks Darrel. Interesting to know the connection between student and mentor.

FWIW, Watts' paper is also in the forum here:

Your portal since it's run by Watts' university, I expect will share future works too.

Cheers, Eric

Thank-you, I must have missed that on the forum.

I've talked a bit with Joy, her research is very varied and includes work on the Tudor warship the "Mary Rose" and all sorts of other microbiological research. I think she spent time at Towson, which is where she became interested in xylophagous fish.
