New Corydoras arcuatus
EDIT: At a later date, the fish were inspected for the presence of abdominal platelets, one trait which distinguishes from . Upon inspection, all of the fish in this group are in fact C020, not C. arcuatus.
Hi All,
I found a LFS (Neptune Aquatics in San Jose, CA) that was just stocked with corys! It was a bit of a drive from home (about 90 minutes/85 miles), but wow, was it worth it: Adolfoi, aeneus (normal and albino), agassizii, arcuatus (good sized), baderi, brevirostris, concolor, green lasers, hastatus, kanei, melini, paleatus, panda, pygmaeus, red lasers, schultzei, schwartzi, similis, sodalis (but labeled reticulatus), sterbai, trilineatus, and weitzmani, plus a couple more.
I picked up a half dozen , eventually to join our school project on cory venoms. For now I'll just enjoy them as they go through QT and get into condition.
Cheers,
Eric

Re: New Corydoras arcuatus
No I'm not sure. The tanks were arranged on end and the fish all hid at the back, so it was very difficult to see them. What I could see generally matched the overall color pattern, but if it was anything else I couldn't tell.
They did have their misidentified as , so it's not beyond imagination that these weren't correctly ID'd either.
And to be honest I was trying to recall all the names from memory an hour after leaving the store. In the interest of academic integrity, I need to be open-minded to the possibility that my memory was faulty and the name was something other than .... I am sure that sure that its name started with the letter "b," and I am sure that the fish looked like baderi. I know that because my phone's internet history includes a visit to the baderi CLOG page. While I was in the store, I was going back and forth between CLOG pages on PlanetCatfish to check the appearances and confirm ID's of the various fish in the store. If it wasn't listed as baderi, why would I have checked against that name?
For so many reasons I want to go back to the store soon. But as mentioned above, it is a 90 minute drive each direction, and this is a very busy time of the year for me in summer school, so there's not a lot of free time to go back right now.
If I do get back, I will confirm the name and take pictures of the fish.
Cheers, Eric

Hi,
C. nattereri could be an option.
To my knowledge C. baderi was never in the trade over here and if so I would expect extreme prices...

Thank Karsten. What about ? It looks (superficially) similar to baderi. Does it get imported?
Oh, how I wish I could escape to there again. But life comes first and it'll have to wait.

Re: New Corydoras arcuatus
Indeed it was. I was slightly critical in that I thought all the plecos were overpriced (e.g., $10 for a clown pleco), but in their defense you should expect to pay a little extra (even on the run-of-the-mill fish) for opportunity and variety - they are stocking a lot of corys that most people wouldn't care two cents about. And for that reason I was happy to pay a little extra for these fish ($8 each). Also I confess that I am spoiled by my nearby LFS (which is still an hour away from home, LOL).
The store's website and FB pages are http://www.neptuneaquatics.com and https://www.facebook.com/neptuneaquatics. I just looked at their list of followers and likes, and it says that Hans Evers, Sumer Tiwari and Rachel O'Leary like this store.
I guess that proves how good it is!

Re: New Corydoras arcuatus
Hi Eric,
At least to my knowledge C. bondi was present in the trade in the past, in Germany I have seen them only once at an exposition/ trade fare (F1 from a private expedition) in the last 6-8 years.
Whereas C. nattereri I have seen several times in the trade and it's patternwise even closer.
Cheers,
this would be more likely than C. baderi, but still a rare species in the trade.

Both bondi and nattereri show up with some frequency, every couple of years. However, I've never seen either of them correctly labeled at wholesalers. Without a visual, either by you or a photo, this isn't likely to be easily answered.

I hope to get back there Saturday or Sunday. Will get photos if fish still there and if store permits.pleco_breeder wrote: ↑15 Jun 2017, 01:53 Both bondi and nattereri show up with some frequency, every couple of years. Re: New Corydoras arcuatus
Got back to LFS today, 5+ hour drive round trip due to Friday eve traffic. I guess my memory was crap. These were axelrodi, not baderi or bondi! ... And the name didn't even start with "b"!!!bekateen wrote: ↑12 Jun 2017, 20:27And to be honest I was trying to recall all the names from memory an hour after leaving the store. But the trip wasn't a total loss: I got a dozen concolor, 2 more "arcuatus," and four big old schwartzi.
