sussed it thanks!

I was sold this as a mountain madtom catfish, id and sex would be great.

in the shop there were a few all playing with each other now home and 'its' bored, sits ion the corner lonely. I have a 4ft tank so size is no issue, however, they are having dificulties in locating more without proper name.

he/she is all grey/blue with massive whiskers almost as long as the body, and a payler belly.

also, i noticed in a previous post an albino plec, but the reply was no red eyes not albino. i have an orangy plec with red eyes, is this rare????

I don't know for sure (because the picture isn't the best angle to see all of the fish's features), but I'm fairly sure it's NOT a MadTom of any kind.

Here's a possible candidate:

They grow HUGE, as opposed to MadToms that are fairly suitable size for keeping in tanks.

Regarding your pleco question, could you please post that question in the thread of the fish in question, as it gets very confusing for others when there is two different discussions in the same thread [imagine if there weren't any threads at all, and everyone just posted their posts with no relationship to other posts at all! :-( ]

it doesn't look like a madtom or a large native US cat.

Kind of looks like a pimelodid.

Males should have an elongate genital papilla in front of the anal fin.
