Brachyrhamdia spp.

Post by BoBzz »

I have found yet another species that I would like to incorporate into my SA set up! :D
I was already planning on a large school of Cories but havent chosen what species yet. But since I want these I guess ill have to find one of the species they feel comfortable with right? All of the Brachyrhamdia species appeal to me so it will be whatever I can get my hands on first(which I have had absolutley no luck with so far, all importers I have spoken with give me the "HUH?" :? response).
If anyone has a good source that they could let me in on it would be more than appreciated!
Anyway back to the question I need to know about any personal experience people have had with these fish. What is and isnt safe with them? anyother tips on keeping them?

They are fairly common in pet stores around here and are often sold as "one-lined pimelodellas" (although the only species I've seen for sale is B. marthae). Heck, I even have one that I am willing to let you have for free.
They are fairly easy to keep as catfishes go. Conspecifics are slightly territorial, but you should have no problem keeping more than one, provided that you have enough room.

Wow I didnt realize they were so common I have seen fish labeled as one lines but most of the time they turn out to be Pictus or Suncats?!? yes I know I have some retarded LFSs! I making some LFS runs this weekend so ill check it out then.
What cories do they school with in the wild? I really want to make them as comfortable as possible(hoping for some breeding 8) )
Thanks for the reply as always! :D

I'm not that sure if B. marthae actually schools with corys in the wild. Brahyrhamdia rambarrani has been known to school with C. adolfoi, though. I suspect most Corydoras with a similar pattern like C. arcuatus would work.

Not too sure. Probably solitary, but living in loose aggregations.
