Yeahh, my first zebra spawn!!

Post by jac »

Hi all,

Yesterday my very first fry hatched from my zebra's :D
Because this species is my favorite of all hypancistrus I'm over the moon  It took me nearly exactly 1 year to get them to spawn. I bought the (now breeding) wc pair on the 10th of september last year, added some more on the 16th of september this year and 3 weeks later they had spawned for me 8) Absolutely great!!!

I found 6 eggs yesterday at the back of the cave. Dad had left them and I was scared an other zebra would go in the cave and eat them. So I put them in a fry trap. 4 Didn't survive, mostly due to not getting out of their egg shell.... :( So yesterday I helped the last 2 that were still alive. They survived the night and are still doing fine this afternoon, so I'm confident they will live now :D

Here are my first baby pictures 8)

Day 4.

I read some were about some spikes at the top back end of the head on fry, I think it was the one surviving L240 fry of Havard Stoere. Taking the pictures of my zebra fry I could see the same spikes. Do all fry have these and do we know what the reason is for these?
Here a picture were you can see them:
