Whiptail spawning question
First off i would like to say I am not convinced I have 1 species, I might have a couple. That being said, I will work on pictures of the fish in the next 2 weeks (busy this weekend with travelling). My question regards to spawning. Do they need the pvc pipes, or will they spawn in rocky outcrop caves and under driftwood? If they need the caves, i can arrange it, i just prefer to keep my tanks looking natural. I have 6 fish, hoping to get a few more as they are the only possible/viable breeding group of catfish in this particular 125. I have a lone parancistrus and an LDA72. below is the current set up (adding more oak leaves as they come available)

Re: Whiptail spawning question
It may be a species thing, but I've had the common type spawn on the underside of a piece of driftwood very close to the tank bottom. Other species may be more demanding.

Re: Whiptail spawning question
I found fry in my tank yesterday and they spawned at the bottom of a large piece of drift wood, I have no pvc pipes in my tank, like you I like to keep my tanks as natural as possible.
Good luck
