what happened to this C. Pygmaeus?

Post by wijnands »

Just noticed this. I am 100% this fish was fine over the weekend.

Anyone any idea? Looks like something tried to eat this fish. Funnily enough it doesn't really have stress colouration but it does have trouble swimming.

Water readings are normal. ph 6.5, GH 4, ammonia 0, nitrite 0, nitrates barely registering. Water changes small but twice a week. Nothing else in the tank shows symptoms, witnessed some spawning activity of my cories this week. Shrimp are doing well. Biggest fish in the tank is Trigonostigma Espei.

in Dutch we call this vinrot. Actually it is a bacterial disease

Most broad spectrum cures would help.

As Bas said, it looks like advanced tail fin rot.
I'd remove him from the tank and try and treat in a QT.
There is some speculation it's contagious.
That one might not end well regardless.
...hand made my first tank in 1978 with Silastic & toughened glass sliding lids from an ice cream fridge.
...aaand sliced my hand open :-)
