Survey: dealing w/ rare fishes

Hello all,

After getting my poor "common" suckermouth killed a few days after Jools' last post in the topic
(http://www.planetcatfish.com/forum/view ... hp?t=44898), I took a break from PC partly due to my lack of catfishes.

How do those of you with rarely-imported fishes care for them? I assume some inferences, browsing through scanty research pdfs, and trial-and-error are probably involved, because there tends to be little or no online info for them. Unfortunately, such pdfs are often severely lacking in "nutritional" value, and relying too much on trial-and-error often can have deadly or harmful results to the fish.

It is astounding that we know so little in certain areas. There is almost nothing about the ecology of the Cetopsidae online, but PlanetCatfish has many professional-looking photographs, detailed husbandry suggestions for

Cetopsis coecutiens

, and even a COTM for 3 (!!!) species.




(In case anyone is curious, I do not want any rare fishes. The captive insect hobby is laughably underdeveloped compared to the captive fish hobby, but there are striking parallels between insect and fish keeping, making extrapolation easily possible.)

Correction: They do not have to be extremely rare, as long as there is not much information on them they should be suitable.

Bunocephalus coracoideus

and perhaps some L-numbered plecos should be suitable examples
