L201 Snowball Gender?

Post by dxlxn »

I have this L201 that needs some help with gender id, I think it’s a female from the body shape and from what I can last remember about the reproductive organs but any help to confirm would be greatly appreciated! Picture was when I just got it from the store and was rehabbing it!

Looks like a well-fed male to me, based on head shape and odontodes. Seems more like contradens than a L201 to me, but I've never been the best at ID'ing Hypans. A very nice fish regardless.

Thanks! Well it was sold as L471 but well just size alone tells me it’s not that so I connected it to L201 but well you could be right 😂😂😂

Definitely a male. I'm torn between H. contradens and L201. This fish looks chunky, which indicates contradens to me, but the body is not very tall, which makes me think it's a fat male L201.

How long is this fish?

Cheers, Eric

Not likely L471 at that size. I'm sticking with L201, but I still can't rule out contradens.

Hmmm, what's the easiest way to tell between the two?
