What size is your tank? wattage would make a difference depending on tank size. Also with P. pictus they will become very active in groups. Most people here would recomend 4-5 I think, but even having 2 will be benificial to your cause.

When I kept pictus I never had a problem with their activity They were always the most active thing in tank, continously darting about and playing. Regardless of how much light there was! In the end I got worn out watching them so traded them for an asian bumblebee cat, which I hardly ever see! perfect. If they have plenty of caves like all fish they seem more active, and plants help as well I think.
