Salmontail & blue gourami

Is it ok to but a blue gourami in with salmontail catfish that are about 4 inches?

It may seem OK for now, but I'm sure housing them together is a bad long-term solution. I'd avoid putting them in the same tank if possible.

i would say NO!
in a few months it will easily be large enough to eat the gourami in one gulp.
they only go well with large aussie natives, american cichlids and other large exotics.
