Saw this at LFS in their show tank.. ID please?

Post by lmt6600 »

I went to LFS last night and saw this in their awesome tank. I want one but not sure what they are called. I dont think they are the common whiptail.
Any info would greatly be appreciated, how much they go for? are they rare?

Thanks

It is a Lamontichthys, thats for sure, and specie are probably llanero or filamentosus.

I think the Lamontichthys llanero mostly are shipped from Colombia, and the Lamontichthys filamentosus mostly comes from Peru.

I also find the Lamontichthys llanero much easier to keep than Lamontichthys filamentosus.

If your LFS, do import directly or have a bitt more special selection on the fishes, it should be possible to get some. But they are fare from as common, as guppys :)

Do you mind if I ask what store you found them at? I am going to be in Chicago area shortly and always like to check out local stores when I have time.

The fish is in their show tank so its not for sale, Id just want to get hold of one or two for myself. Its the Aquarium Adventures in Hoffman Estate. There is also one in Boolingbrook. Tropi aquatics have good choices as well in Lombard. Animal island petshop is small petshop in Midlothian but very nice people (thats where i got my L114). There are few also in Chicago but really dont go closer to downtown.

Thank you. That is a nice fish and I am always on the lookout for good fish stores. I am going to need to do some shopping next week. Thanks for your input.
