Pterygoplichthys pardalis or disjunctivus or something else?

Post by Raeka »

I have a common pleco and I'm trying to figure out what it might be. I thought it was either a Pterygoplichthys pardalis or disjunctivus but the ventral markings don't really seem be the definitive example of either to me.

There's evidence that the many of the common plecs in the aquarium trade are actually hybrids of the two, so I wouldn't be terribly concerned which one it is.

Milton, where do you have this information from? Any paper available or just an idea?

This paper, right? As stated in the paper, it could also be the case that the two are in fact the same species.

if they are the same species, then the intermediate forms are not hybrids, but just crossbreeds between 2 varieties, but as a species still purebreed.
and fertile
