ACSI pdf database [no longer available]

Post by Silurus »

In case you are not aware, the All Catfish Species Inventory maintains a database of downloadable pdf of fish papers dating from 1758 - 1899 here.

All of these are catfish-related and some of the larger works have only the catfish sections reproduced.

It's been a decade since the ACSI has ended. I guess it's finally time they pulled the plug on the resources.

This thread will be deleted in a weeks' time.

Might be an idea just to lock it as then we keep the history but folks won't be able to add to the thread and will now see from more recent comments that it's now retired.

I really hope they don't kill the imagebase for type photos. That really is an incredible resource. There's nearly 10,000 photos on there! Perhaps these could be transferred to PC with permission, but that would take up some serious disk space.

It wouldn't be a problem to take these in while maintaining original photographer copyright etc. Possibly we could avoid importing common taxa that we have lots of pictures of already. However, it would require ACSI to share database and pictures with us. However, I don't know that the "imagebase" has a shelf life? Anyone know?

The imagebase is being run on the ANSP server. Mark Sabaj might know something about it.

I'll have a chat with @MHSP when he returns from Brazil. Meantime, I've changed this thread from being a sticky thread to a normal one.
