Dasyloricaria???

Post by MatsP »

I was asked by a friend "Is Dasyloricaria a valid genus, since there's no entry for it on PC?", and I looked it up on CoF and Fishbase, both of which seems to say it is indeed a valid genus. It is also on Norman's Loricariinae page.

Any particular reason it is not here? [I tried searching in other ways, e.g. species name and on geography, but couldn't find anything there either, so I think it's simply "We haven't got them for no particular reason"]

[I do suspect that the fish in the Czech republic is not Dasyloricaria, but that's a completely different matter]

Hi,

it is a valid genus, but unfortunately totally unknown to the hobbby. So maybe thats why.
All fishes labeled as Dasyloricaria in the past turned out to be Rineloricaria.

Yes, looking at the species in Fishbase and CoF, I noted their location and found that "Hmm, that doesn't seem very likely to arrive in the hobby anytime soon".

I'm guessing as several species are being added that this can now be moved to resolved?

I got an interesting looking fish from Colombia, some time ago. It was one fish looking very different in a batch of Rineloricaria sp. They were all bought as Loricaria sp. Rio Atabapo. After showing pictures of it, to some friends, and experts, we started to believe it actually could be a Dasyloricaria. After contacting the exporter, I found out that the fish was collected in Puerto Carreno in the Rio Arauca, Venezuela. Sadly it turn out to be a Rineloricaria sp. It would be very interesting to se a real Dasyloricaria.

Yes, I decided to add the 5 species that are in CoF/Fishbase/Loricariinae.com.
